About Me
I'm a down-to-earth Kiwi who has grown up in the mountainous South Island of New Zealand. Over the years I have worked as an outdoor education instructor, a whitewater rafting guide, a social researcher and as an advisor for Department of Conservation ("DOC", who look after all the wilderness in New Zealand). I've done quite a bit of solo travel, and am now traveling for 6 months with my partner Chris around Canada, Central America, Nepal, India and Sri Lanka.
Chris and I like to rock climb, go walking in the hills, hunt down cool live music and share nice food with nice people :-D
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
We have informally hosted many foreigners to New Zealand and it has made their time here to have a "real" Kiwi experience, with all the best tips and local knowledge. Hoping to further share this and experience something similar on our travels :-)
Interests
The two big loves are the outdoors and music!
Experiencing new places and meeting new people, while sharing experiences, stories and laughs :-)
Music, Movies, and Books
Favourite tunes at the moment are acoustic folk numbers with healthy amounts of guitar, mandolin, banjo. Love groovy stuff with brass too :-) Other good stuff includes roots/dub/reggae, traditional Irish, world music and certain electronica/DnB. Just not a fan of heavy rock or mainstream pop.
In the book department I enjoy reading non-fiction psychology and Scandinavian crime novels.
Teach, Learn, Share
Everyone is a teacher and everyone is a learner. Life's one big fest of sharing experiences, knowledge and skills.
What I Can Share with Hosts
We would like to cook a wholesome meal for our hosts (mostly vegetarian cooking) and always keen to have a jam on Mr Uke (my green ukulele). Plus we're good at dishes and helping out around the house where we can :-P
