About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To improve the quality of life of everyone I come across, and even those I never meet!

ABOUT ME

I am a scientist at heart with a lust for travel. I've made my way around the snow and the globe by working as a ski instructor. My home ski area is Park City, Utah, but I have also worked in Killington, Vermont and at Perisher in Australia for winter 2009. I spent winter 2010 in Queenstown, New Zealand and returned to New Zealand for September-November 2011! I've been living in Seattle for the past few years and am moving to North Carolina to get a degree in Biostatistics so I can engage in all fields of science all over the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Traveling is one of the best things anyone can do - getting a global perspective helps you to be a kinder, more understanding and compassionate person. You can have lots of unique experiences, and find other people to work with on hobbies and business. Sometimes it can be challenging, because hotels and activities can be expensive, and being alone on your travels is sometimes not as much fun. Couchsurfing is a friendly and hospitable community - it's fun traveling when you know you have a new friend waiting for you when you get there. I've made a lot of friends through CS and had great times with local CS communities even when not staying with a host!

Interests

Skiing, snowboarding, horseback riding, swimming, mountain biking, road cycling, hiking, surfing, dancing, video games, writing, nutrition, biostatistics and tissue engineering.

Music, Movies, and Books

Airplane! is my favorite movie - I love reading sci/fi and fantasy books and utopian literature.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I know this is cheesy, but sometimes watching a child discover or get excited about something for the first time is really amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Australia is a great place for a backpacking trip! It's a huge country with lots to explore, wonderful hostels, great people, good public transportation in cities and via Greyhound bus!

Finding convenient housing in Queenstown in June is HARD! Finding a decent job is even harder! I would recommend Queenstown to anyone of any age with any interest but bring some money!

I started a travel blog for my 2011 trip and I would like people to read it as a story and as a guide for their travels. Please message me with any comments or questions!

What I Can Share with Hosts

My new-found enthusiasm for data science and biostatistics! I'm on a mission to figure out how food and its interactions with our unique gut microbiomes can affect our health. I've been studying diabetic kidney disease in my research and am interested in biostatistics because I want to learn how to aggregate data across studies. Other than my new nerdy obsession, I'm still excited as ever about skiing, mountain biking, going to the ocean, hiking... and of course, I can always share some beer. ^_^
