About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Recently moved back to Manchester area, I'm not sure if I'm able to host right now, but I am more than happy to meet people and show them the sights of this great city

ABOUT ME

I'm originally from Nottinghamshire (Robin Hood country), I moved to Manchester in 2002 for university and it was there I stayed until I moved away in 2011 to travel the world before spending 2 years living and working on the south coast in Portsmouth. I have recently moved back to the city I love, Manchester, and I'm loving it although a lot has changed in the 3 years I was away! I work as an analytical chemist at a large pharmaceutical company and I enjoy beer

PHILOSOPHY

I love how wonderfully complex the world is around us and the more I learn about it the more amazing it seems.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hosted a couple of times in manchester when I was able, I have also met fellow couchsurfers in san francisco at a social as well as staying with a rather nice couple in santa cruz. I have attended a couple of socials with the manchester CS crew as well

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've only had a few experiences so far, I went on a tour around san francisco with a couch surfer called James in his car. I stayed with a couple (andrea and blake) for 2 nights in santa cruz and also met some of the san francisco couch surfing community at the wednesday night CS social when I was there in July 2010

Interests

Music! both playing it and listening to it, I play bass guitar, (have a rather lovely fender jazz bass), also play acoustic guitar and the violin. I enjoy a good whisky or exotic beer though, quite enjoy finding new foods, drinks, places. I've recently started to get into photography as well. Many things really, as long as I'm having fun

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm into most sorts of music but have been listening to a lot of pendulum, muse, martin harley, rage, Maximo Park, Frank Turner, Florence and the Machine, Foofighters recently.

Books ... not a huge reader I have to admit, I read the harry potter series (I Know) but they were fun to read, I also enjoyed Bill Brysons short history of nearly everything and the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy saga. I read a few random books when away travelling, 1984, which I chose to read in Cambodia, and it kinda connected with bits of that countries recent (and horrific) history. An amazing book called "the curious incident of a dog in the night time" which was about an autistic boy and his trials with his father and understanding his place in the world, I loved the writing style though. I'm currently reading the Lord of the Rings, I'm on part 6 now so almost finished it, i got lazy though as I got through the first 4 parts in March (whilst in New Zealand, awesome place to read it) and then got distracted, I intend to finish it soon though!

Movies: My favourite films are probably (in no particular order) Memento, groundhog day, dances with wolves, The matrix (not the sequels) the usual suspects, new batman films, 500 days of summer

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Swam in a crystal clear alpine lake at around 10,000 ft, slept outside under the stars in nothing but a sleeping bag in Yosemite Park surrounded by awesome people (and a bear)

Teach, Learn, Share

I can probably give a good bash at explaining the usual questions people have about science from people who aren't scientists themselves, I can teach you guitar chords, basics on bass, (violin is a bit more difficult to teach in a short time scale)

I'd like to learn to do a card trick or two or learn to lock pick

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bolivia, Brazil, Cambodia, Chile, China, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Isle of Man, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Peru, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Thailand, United States, Viet Nam, Wales

Countries I’ve Lived In

United Kingdom
