About Me
"t doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for – and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing. It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool – for love – for your dreams – for the adventure of being alive." -ORIAH MOUNTAIN DREAMER
I am a person who goes places, learns from other people, teaches other people, cooks too rarely and eats too much and tries her best to both stay busy and yet lead a mindful life.
I've read this quote by Stephen Fry once, he argues that people should think of themselves as verbs rather than nouns and these words have stayed at the back of my head for years now. I believe in the power of words, the strength they can give us, the inspiration they bring into our lives and the beauty of being understood through them.
Being a verb is liberating, it's nonconformist, it doesn't put you in box.
So I'm also a person who loves studying, who's a little interested in a lot of different things and who loves working with people and spending evenings alone binge-watching netflix.
I'm also a Gemini which I think says a lot about me. I'm spiritual without being religious and I love talking about a lot of stuff that I'm not even sure I believe in. To me, the only constant thing is change and I want to build my life around that idea. I daydream a lot and call it plans because I've read somewhere that you have to be ambitious with your plans so if they get messed up, you end up in a kind of a nice place anyway.
- I must have written this description a looong time ago and I'm too lazy to bother changing it despite of how cliche it all sounds, it does sort of ring true (still), which makes the thing about change sound like nonsense. Suddenly, I like it a bit better now. (22 update)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
There's the funny stories, the creepy stories which become funny in time, and the meanigful experiences, and the deep connections and the shallow ones with laughs shared over a glass of wine but - really - it's more of a why not at this point.
Music, Movies, and Books
Way, way too many.
Let me just tell you, I love the dandies. Oscar Wilde and Marcel Proust are probably my soulmates. I also love Milan Kundera, Hermann Hesse, Vladimir Nabokov and Bohumil Hrabal. So, so many others.
When it comes to music, I more or less don't have a developed taste or I do but it's not very specific. The two geniuses who accompany my otherwise musically deprived life are Nils Frahm and Phillip Glass.
Moooovies. The one and only - Xavier Dolan. One of the main reasons I even started studying French - to watch his movies without subtitles. Too bad when I tell people about Dolan, they ask me if he's a duck (?).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I certainly hope there's a significant number of absolutely amazing things to do still ahead of me but I guess if I were to share one I'd say it's joining couchsurfing and becoming an Erasmus students.
I used to be a pretty reserved person and had my doubts about both but they totally ruled my world. Living abroad, travelling solo and hanging out with strangers taught me so much about who I am and who I want to become.
