ABOUT ME

My name is Brian Kashi Betts, and I go by my middle name because I have since a small child, and it's unique. I was born and raised in a small spiritual community called Ananda which is outside of Nevada City, California. I moved to Chico California in 2010 to go the the University, and as of September 2012 I am in Florence through a study abroad program for the entire school year. I have been in Europe three times before, and I love to travel, meet new people and explore different cultures.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I traveled in Europe with some friends in 2009 I stayed with a few people who were offering their couches on this sight. I wanted to be able to give back, in a way, by helping others who might need a couch in CHICO, but not many travelers come through that area. I would love to host if possible when I get back to the states.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I started Couch Surfing June 2009 when I traveled with some friends to Ireland, Paris, and a lot in Italy. My CS hosts were awesome, I loved meeting new people and discovering their way of being and also welcomed into their homes. I'm excited to do more CS and to meet more people.

Interests

I've been playing the cello since I was 6 years old. Off and on for the past 2 years, but i haven't forgotten how to play! If a Cello presents itself to me I'm always ready, I always have my music. I really like glass art, and had a great time glass blowing which I was lucky enough to participate in at CSU Chico for a semester. I really like the Italian language, which I have been studying for over 2 years. I am amazed with Florence, the city I am a guest in for this year and I am having a great time learning about the culture.

Music, Movies, and Books

When I play the cello, I play classical like Bach and Vivaldi. But I like listening to a lot of different types of music. Ex: I like dubstep, rap, hip hop and more. A few artists I like: Zomboy, Pendulum, Zeds dead, Tech N9ne, Emis Killa, Marracash, Akon, Blink 182.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Summited the Northeast face of Fletcher peak in Yosemite National Park in 2012 with my brother.

Teach, Learn, Share

One of my main goals is to learn Italian fluently. I think I am at an OK conversational level now and I would like to be around other Italians who don't mind slowing down for me so I can learn. I can also help Italians who want to learn English, because it is fun to share and struggle together in two languages! I'd be happy to share my cello music, if I'm at home but the cello doesn't travel so unless you have one handy I probably can't offer that! I'd really like to learn about other people and customs.
