About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Dream big and make it happen

ABOUT ME

I love my life! I have a loving family, great friends and loads of space for more of the above! I am a teacher, originally in the US, but then I started teaching overseas, in Tanzania, Hong Kong and Bangladesh. For a change of pace I moved to The Hague to work for the company that writes the curriculum I've been teaching while living overseas. I'm now working with teachers in a Dutch International School in Hilversum.

The travel bug bit me at the tender age of 18 when I lived in Belgium as an exchange student. After finishing my degree at uni I realized I could combine my love of travelling with my need to earn money to travel - Bonus!

I travel like Henry David Thoreau !
You are a dreamer who is known at least as well known for your ability to blend in with nature as for your actual travels. You are undoubtedly way ahead of your time, and most of your ramblings will make perfect sense to people, eventually.

PHILOSOPHY

Live your dream...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So far, I've only hosted but I love it, getting to meet new people and learn their stories; exploring parts of the city where I live and seeing it from a different perspective. What's not to love?!?

In the past I've helped organize and host the weekly CS meeting in The Hague. It's a very active group with lots of regulars to catch up with and always a great place to meet new people. I'm hoping to get something similar going in Haarlem, let me know if you'd like to help out.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Late night chats over good food and better wine; coming back from work to hear about an experience I recommended and they loved it!

I'm amazed at all the activities also available and try to help out with hosting the weekly meetings.

Interests

My collector self (of TV series, music, books, art, wine, etc) vies with my minimalist self. I enjoy space and time to be myself as well as hanging out with friends. Lucky enough to be able to do it all...

Music, Movies, and Books

Favs in a nutshell: Movies - Moulin Rouge, Midnight in Paris, The Princess Bride, Fifth Element, O Brother Where Art Thou; Music - Adele, Muse, Eels, Cake, Martha Wainwright, Flaming Lips, Bob Dylan, Regina Spektor, Wim Mertens, ; Books/Writers- Siddhartha, Anne Rice, Pablo Neruda, Dylan Thomas, Jane Austen...it goes on.

At times it seems like I read everything that comes in front of my eyes. For education, writers/poets from or writing about where I live/used to live and the surrounding areas. I usually have two or three books on the go, currently reading The Life You Can Save by Peter Singer and The Duchess of Windsor by Diana Mosley. I seem to be always awaiting the next installment in The Walking Dead graphic novel series.

I read and listen to most everything. I love fiction best but enjoy autobiographies and other nonfiction books. My favorite magazines include Simple Life to Harpers to Vanity Fair.

If you request to surf my couch, please personalize it and tell me what you're reading! That way I'll know you read my profile and are not just randomly sending request blasts to a lot of people.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Tanzania - Early morning hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti. Walking along the Masai steppe with wild animals, playing a pick up soccer match with boys keeping watch over their families herd of cows.

In the 'desh - sitting in a longboat at sunset, being rowed down a river, emerald trees, aquamarine skies and smiling children running alongside.

In HK - antique shopping in Shenzen, taking water taxi's, local markets

In NL - outdoor markets, boating along the canals and through the tulip fields, people watching.

Teach, Learn, Share

Yes please!

I can teach: Guerrilla English, How to order beer in several languages; the latest 'must-have' apps; generally most things 'techy';

I'd like to learn: Dutch, how to ask for beer in languages you know, anything related to photography or photoshop, how to make a special/favorite dish from your home country...something new.

I'm good at sharing: time - let's do/experience something together!
