About Me

An open-minded - but perhaps somewhat stubborn - occasional flower thief (well really only from gardens), aspiring artist, ready for new adventures and not scared of anything (except spiders and other creepy crawly things). Always curious, almost always hungry. Or, in more logistical terms, a newly-graduated former Biology/Visual Arts student, living and working in New York City but from Taipei, Taiwan/southern California.

...and the rest hopefully you'll find out and decide for yourself (hopefully nothing too bad)! (:

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Cliche as it may sound, I truly believe that meeting different people is one of the most incredible aspects of traveling. CS is a wonderful way to meet interesting people and to make the most out of my travels. I also would really like the opportunity to show other couchsurfers what I can about my corner of the world.

And of course if you ever find yourself in NYC I'd love to host if I am around! Or, if I happen to be in Taipei at the time I would be more than happy to meet up and/or provide travel tips.

Interests

It's quite difficult to decide just what I want to put here, because I think I find most things in this world interesting. However, the major reoccurring themes in my life appear to be the arts, fashion, food (both creation and consumption) and traveling. (:

Music, Movies, and Books

Words are beautiful. I can't say I have a single favorite book, but one of the most recent works I have read is James Joyces' short story collection Dubliners and I think The Little Prince is a beautiful narrative. Crime fiction is perhaps a broader genre that I have been getting into as of late. New suggestions are always welcome and I am a huge fan of literary discourse. Also, I really, really love picture books (Eric Carle anyone?) and artists' books.

My musical appetite is quite broad, ranging from classical and jazz to techno and R&B - it really depends on my mood and the setting. I won't pretend to be superbly musically informed, but I'm more than willing to listen and learn.

Atonement is hands down my favorite film, and My Neighbor Totoro is my favorite animated film (Studio Ghibli was a huge part of my childhood).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Escape from the balcony of my 8th story apartment.

Teach, Learn, Share

Anyone want to learn to crack an egg with one hand, make a crown with a paper bag and some flowers, or some traditional Chinese?

What I Can Share with Hosts

As much (or as little) about my experiences in Taiwan/the U.S./anywhere else I've been in the world, some good conversation, and of course some wine or beer!
