Software engineer working in San Fransisco who loves cats, hardstyle, Britney Spears, traveling, food, and video games.

I aspire to experience and learn as much as possible, and I'll never say no to trying new things. I'm a licensed skydiver, scuba diver, and hang glider pilot, and I'm also a huge adrenaline junkie. I’ve gone skydiving from a hot air balloon, flown an aerobatic plane and learned dogfighting maneuvers and tricks, gone tornado chasing with stormchasers, learned how to wrestle alligators, gone skinny-dipping in Antarctica, taken a jungle survival course and survived by myself in the Amazon for a few days with just a machete and basic belt kit, driven and shot a tank, flamethrowers, anti-tank guns, artillery, a grenade launcher, a minigun, and much more.

Britney Spears is my goddess, and getting to meet her was the best day of my life (partly because I love her and partly because that trip actually changed my life; it taught me a lot about myself, and that's when I started traveling alone, learned how to skydive, scuba dive, and hang glide, and began devoting myself to experiencing as much as possible -- read my Teach, Learn, Share section below for my long explanation of why).

Like most people on this site, I obviously love traveling! I've lived with reindeer herders in arctic Siberia and nomads in the Sahara desert. I've climbed up an active volcano and watched it erupt 30 minutes later while descending, with flying rocks hitting the spot where I had been standing earlier. I've had a meal at a table suspended by a crane 45 meters in the air over the ancient ruins of Teotihuacan, and gone stand-up paddleboarding in Antarctica and watched a humpback whale breach 15 meters away from me. Everywhere I go, I try to see and do as much as possible.

I make lots of other videos of my travels too, so check out https://vimeo.com/kataliciousdef if you want to see them! Some of my personal favorites are:
--Sardine Run in South Africa (https://vimeo.com/225785280)
--Living with with the Nenets reindeer herders in arctic Siberia (https://vimeo.com/246221066)
--Snorkeling/diving in the Galapagos (https://vimeo.com/174476764)
--Blackwater diving with bioluminescent zooplankton in Hawaii (https://vimeo.com/181749594)
--Wildlife in Antarctica (https://vimeo.com/197833321)
--Diving to 2100 ft in a submarine in Honduras (https://vimeo.com/219783630)
but I have plenty of various other videos as well!

I used to be a pole fitness instructor specializing in strength tricks, and I also briefly dabbled in other circus arts and acro yoga and wall trampoline. Nowadays I just pole in my room to keep my strength up and do a little bit of calisthenics, but I don't train nearly as much as I used to.

I used to travel around to go to EDM festivals, though now I pretty much only go to hardstyle shows. I love melbourne shuffling, and I also do a bit of jumpstyle, muzzing, and hakken. I was a big kandi kid but I spend a little less time making kandi nowadays.

I also practice lucidity and dream control on and off, and I have some incredible dream stories. I love sharing dream experiences with other dream-enthusiasts!

I get a lot of hosting requests from surfers; if you're requesting to stay with me, just to make sure you're reading my profile, please, in your request, tell me a story that you think I'll like. Could be about anything, as long as you think it'll pique my personal interests. ALSO PLEASE READ the "my home" section of my profile and acknowledge the sleeping conditions I specified there! I don't want any surprises when you show up. :) Otherwise, I will likely decline your request.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies/TV: I don't really watch movies or TV since I get restless and bored when passively watching things. I do like some 3D animated movies though, since I used to do a bit of animation, so I love most Pixar movies. The only TV show I watch is RuPaul's Drag Race, but I LOVE that show.

Music: I used to be a huge pop fan in the 2000s, and I still love the music from my favorites Britney Spears, Rihanna, and Nicki Minaj, but I'm not a huge fan of current day top 40 songs.
In the past few years, I've become a huge EDM fan. My favorite genre of EDM is hardstyle, and I also listen to various types of techno, house, and trance. My favorite DJs include Lady Faith, TNT, D-Block & S-Te-Fan, Adam Beyer, and Simon Patterson.

Food: I try to seek out unique dishes all over the world, and I've eaten some really crazy/weird/awesome things (such as bull testicles, bull penis, raw horse sashimi, lobster sashimi killed so fresh that it still moves, still-moving octopus tentacles, blowfish sperm sacs, iguana, balut, calf brain cream, and pregnant snails, just to name a few).

Video games: My favorite series are Pokemon, Ace Attorney, Professor Layton, Mario Kart, Super Smash Brothers, Star Fox, Paper Mario, Final Fantasy, Shin Megami Tensei, Persona, Danganronpa, and the 999 series. Also some individual games outside of the series I've mentioned that I love are Mother 3, Ghost Trick, and Night in the Woods. I have a 9999 VR ranking in Mario Kart Wii, and I used to play Pokemon competitively (OU tier) in Generation IV!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've done so many amazing things on my travels, but one of the coolest experiences I've had was when I spent some time living with the desert nomads in the Sahara desert and learning about their culture. The night sky from the desert is perfectly clear and filled with shooting stars, so I climbed out into the sand dunes one night and sat in the middle alone, with no traces of other life around. In every direction, I could only see sand dunes and, right above them, stars and the night sky. The resulting illusion was incredible--instead of being two separate layers, sky and earth became connected, and the sky formed what looked like a giant dome of stars around me. I felt as if I was sitting alone in the middle of a giant bubble, the top half of which was formed of night sky and stars and the bottom half of which was formed by the sand dunes that enclosed me. I lay down on my back and, looking up, the only thing in my field of vision was stars: no trees, no buildings, no people. I spread out my arms, and I felt as if my fingertips stretched all the way out to the tops of the dunes around me, touching the sky where it met the sand. Looking up and seeing only stars, I felt like the sky and stars were right above me, almost pressing into my chest, and I was sandwiched between sky and earth. The stars formed a blanket over me, and I felt as if the blanket was lying right on top of my body. The wind kept blowing small sheets of sand over me, but, here, I felt like I controlled the wind, and I was willing it to blow at the intensity it was blowing. I don't think I've ever felt more at peace or more connected with everything around me, not just the earth but the whole universe. As I climbed back over the sand dunes to go sleep under the stars at the campsite, I noticed that the wind had already covered the footprints I had originally created to climb into the sand dunes, and the dunes were once again perfectly clean, with no trace of human life.

Teach, Learn, Share

Here's what I learned from meeting Britney Spears. This is pretty cheesy, but it's very important to me, and it's shaped a large part of who I am. I wrote this on May 16, 2015, my one year anniversary of meeting Britney:

My biggest fear used to be of being alone. I tried to constantly surround myself with other people. Some of them were true friends. Others were merely people I pretended were friends, people who I tricked myself into believing had my best interests in mind. Inside, I knew they were detrimental to my personal happiness, but I was so desperately lonely that I let them tear me apart. I became emotionally unstable, and I felt more helpless and lost than I had in years. I re-entered a living hell that I thought I had overcome in high school and would never have to experience again.

One year ago, I traveled alone for the first time. I had bought tickets earlier in the year to see Britney Spears, my favorite artist, perform in Vegas on May 16, 2014. I had to buy tickets early to nab one before they sold out, which meant that I had to buy my ticket before my college exam schedule came out. It was just my luck that I ended up having an exam in Boston at 2pm on May 17, the day after I was set to see Britney in Vegas. I had another exam three days prior, so I didn’t have much of a choice with my trip dates. I was going to take a two day trip to Vegas in between my exams and take a red-eye back immediately after the show to make my final exam.

I was nervous at first of traveling alone. I’ve always been a shy person, and I find it difficult to approach and talk to people I don’t know. I was afraid that nobody would talk to me, and I would be alone the whole trip.

I could not have been more mistaken. Everywhere I went, people would introduce themselves to me and start conversations, listening to what I had to say. I realized that, even though I was physically alone, I was never actually alone. As long as I was willing to tell my story, there were people around willing to listen.

And, because I was by myself, I had the freedom to do what I wanted to do without having to consider and accommodate the needs and desires of others. It was the first time I had really treated myself with trying new things alone. I tried flying a WWII combat plane, and I learned dogfighting maneuvers and flips, tumbles, loops, barrel rolls, and much more, all at 7,000 feet up in the air (I shot down and beat my opponent in 4 of 4 dogfighting matches, so get at me ayy). I became a dolphin trainer for a day, getting to teach the dolphins tricks and watch them execute them. And, of course, I met Britney Spears.

“You right now have the biggest smile that I’ve ever seen on anybody’s face,” the person behind me in line told me as I walked up the stairs to meet Britney. He was right; I don’t think I have ever smiled that wide in my whole life. When I walked up to (or ran up to, more like) Britney and got to speak with her and tell her how much she meant to me, I can definitively say that that was the happiest moment of my life.

So perhaps money can buy you happiness. But, more importantly, I learned that you can choose your own happiness. You should never need to depend on other people for your own personal happiness, and you’re never truly alone (unless you’re in solitary confinement, I suppose).

Knowing this, I began devoting my life to experiencing as much as possible, regardless of whether I was alone or not. In the next summer, I learned to hang glide, scuba dive, and skydive. I began traveling as often as possible, mostly alone but meeting others along the way. Two years ago, I thought my friend was crazy for couchsurfing while traveling around alone. Today, I’ve found couchsurfing to be one of the best ways to experience a new location like a local. There are good people out in the world, and they are willing to share their experiences with you and learn from yours.

After watching Britney’s concert the first time, I grabbed all my belongings and ran out of the hotel to catch a cab to the airport. When I got on my flight and knew it wasn’t delayed, all I could think was, “I did it! I did itIdiditIdidit!” I made it back on campus with 2 hours to spare before my exam was to begin. When I walked into the exam room, I found all my friends sitting in one corner. I walked up to them, and, when they saw me, they all started cheering, seeing that I had made in back in time. “What is your life?” one of my friends asked, wanting me to tell her all about my Vegas trip.

When people ask me today what the craziest thing I have ever done is, I don’t say skydiving. I don’t say scuba diving in a tank of sharks. I don’t say diving off a canyon swing butt naked or leaping off the highest bungy jump in the world. I don’t say white water rafting down the highest commercial grade waterfall. Instead, I talk about the first trip I took alone, my two day trip to Vegas where I met Britney Spears. To me, that still is the craziest thing I’ve ever done.

“I used to think that the worst thing in life was to end up alone. It’s not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people who make you feel alone,” said Robin Williams as Lance Clayton in World’s Greatest Dad. One year ago, I learned how true that really was.
