About Me

I started a very long hitchhiking adventure after leaving England in August 2015. Here is a link to my blog which I enthusiastically started, but left a bit abandoned...

I ended up in Australia in 2019 and got stuck! In a good way. I work as a tree planter and have been doing more of that with each year. But I am still trying to get out a travel, always looking for the next hiking or climbing spot. I move around a lot with work, and also get put up, so I haven't been able to host yet. Whenever I get a home of my own, it'll be amazing to pay it back and meet more adventure hungry people coming to see Aus.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

This year, 2024, my partner Jack and I will be cycling around New Zealand. We'd love to see as much of the country as we can. I know from experience that best way to do that is by being around people who know it well. Ideally, we plan to travel quite slowly, as I think you get so much more from somewhere the longer you stay. Guide books are great, but guide humans are better.
Most of us on Couchsurfing love travelling and meeting new people: which means new opinions, ideas, interests, landscapes, environments etc. I hope to keep exploring!

Interests

Like everyone on here, I love travelling. It seems to be the thing I spend most of my money on. My longer travels have been in South America and India. But I have spent a lot of time wondering around Europe: oh the brilliance of cheap airlines! And hitchhiking! Another easy way to meet new people.
In terms of sport I love hiking, climbing, skiing, swimming and cycling. Fortunately I have been able to ski a lot and I had the best time doing a few seasons in Canada. Getting up everyday to the sight of a big mountain, then spending all day playing on it - I don't think it gets much better than that. I've always been a swimmer, and since been living in Bristol, I have spent lots of time on my bike. I went on my first touring trip - around Denmark.
The best time of year is summer: as summer = festivals! I can never go to enough. Dancing in the sunshine with smiling friends for days on end. Lush!

Music, Movies, and Books

These are the playlists that I have on my Spotify, vaguely in order of how much I listen to them: Techno, Folk. That's 2 ridiculously broad genres I know. 60s, Dub/reggae, Latin, Disco, Ska...
I listen to a lot of Audiobooks, mostly by British authors because I do miss home a lot. Alan Partridge makes me laugh more that anything else. And David Mitchell.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A friend and I managed to hitch from Bristol to Prague in 36 hours as part of a fundraising event/competition. We were dressed as a unicorn: I was the front end and head, she was the tail. And we won! And raised loads of money.
Doing a skydive attached to my uncle will always be a life highlight!

Teach, Learn, Share

I have been playing with poi for the last few years. There is plenty more that I want to learn though, and I want to get better with fire! I also have a hoop, but haven't spent much time with that. I did make and decorate it though!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I hope to tell and hear plenty of stories! Cooking together is always nice. A good long walk, maybe all day, followed by a cold beer.
