About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Traveling Northern Europe!
ABOUT ME
I am an art history, Scandinavian studies, and journalism student from the states. I study at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where I also work at the Weisman Art Museum and am really involved with various other art galleries and museums. I'm currently on exchange in Oslo, Norway, studying Scandinavian studies at the University of Oslo. I'm excited to see more of Norway and Scandinavia as well as other Northern European cities!
PHILOSOPHY
I believe in taking the time to appreciate the small details in life and the beauty all around us. I enjoy going for long walks, and my friends often make fun of me when I get excited about a cool piece of street art or a nicely designed door handle. Nothing is better than looking and seeing beauty in everyday objects all around you :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Since I'll be traveling a lot while in Europe, it will be difficult to host surfers. But once I'm back in Minneapolis, you're welcome to crash at my apartment and explore my beloved Twin Cities!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
So far I've only couchsurfed in Trondheim, Norway. I had an absolutely wonderful experience, and met some of the best people in all of Norway. The city was gorgeous with many adorable and unique neighborhoods and the famous Nidaros Cathedral. I definitely recommend visiting Trondheim if you are in Norway. I took the train from Oslo to Trondheim, which was about 7 hours - but the scenery was totally worth it.
Interests
I love art and traveling, so I'm looking forward to writing about the art I see in my travels on my blog katemarieheller.wordpress.org. I really enjoy just wandering around new cities to really get a feel for them.

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm a huge movie-fanataic. I'll watch basically anything. I enjoy listening to good music, but I can't pretend to know anything about it, I just know what I like and don't like. And as for books, I have to say Harry Potter - but I also enjoy good suspense, coming-of-age, and novels about strong independent women.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One of the most amazing things I've done in my lifetime was traveling to Beijing, China with my best friend. I'd never been so immersed in a culture so different from my own. The trip helped me not only see the world from a different view, but it also helped me understand the necessity of breaking down stereotypes and appreciating another's culture first hand to understand it.
Teach, Learn, Share
Never turn down a trip you can afford. Even if you feel you don't have the time, make time - because it will be worth it.
