Hi, I'm Kate. I'm from London (UK) but currently spending a year studying in Boston. I've travelled all over the world but never tried out Couchsurfing before - but I'm excited about getting to meet real people and see more of the US! I'm always looking for interesting side quests - best one so far has been iron casting in New Hampshire.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on a scholarship that's over 100 years old and designed to 'build bonds of friendship' between the UK and US. In my last few months here, I'm keen to travel and meet people across the country. I'd love to get to know more of America, particularly places off the beaten track that aren't always on the top of the list for tourists. I want to learn more about the parks/bars/attractions that people love about where they live - and have interesting conversations along the way.

Music, Movies, and Books

Very cheesy but my favourite film is probably Four Weddings and a Funeral. I love to read and think East of Eden by John Steinbeck is probably one of the best books ever written - otherwise I spend my time reading a lot of non-fiction about factories and manufacturing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Over the winter vacation I took the 52 hour train from San Francisco to Chicago - the views were absolutely beautiful. I had so many interesting conversations with fellow passengers, sharing meals and stories. Would highly recommend to anyone (though maybe not doing the whole journey in a coach seat like I did!).

Teach, Learn, Share

My degrees are in engineering and I absolutely love to make things - if you've got a sewing machine or 3D printer etc that you haven't got to grips with, I'd love to share my skills! I'm also very handy and love putting together flatpack furniture etc, or just helping out with cooking or cleaning.

I have very little musical skill (other than the steel pan) so if you have any instruments you can play or teach, I'd love to hear.
