Overview
About Me
Hi I'm Kate (but people often call me ka-te or kats).
I'm half-Kiwi and half-Aussie but grew up mostly in Japan. I just graduated with a B.A. from NYU Abu Dhabi, and finished high school at UWC Costa Rica. I've been extremely lucky to have been able to live in and travel to many places over my life, but it has made "where is home?" a very difficult question to answer!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I think that couchsurfing is such a brilliant way to get to meet authentic people and experience authentic places. So far I have met up with couchsurfers in Osaka, Istanbul, Buenos Aires, and Kuala Lumpur and want to increase this list!
Unfortunately I can't host anyone as don't have a permanent home, but in the future when I have my own place I definitely want to give back to the movement.
Interests
I am really interested in environmental education. In my spare time I make short films for local environmental groups and NGOs.
I enjoy hearing people's answers to "would-you-rather" questions.
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: The Spotify playlist titled "Songs to Sing in the Shower"
Books: Doing Good Better by William MacAskill; Wikipedia
Movies: Atonement, Black Fish, Death at a Funeral, Spirited Away, Coco, everything Pixar.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Stayed at Windsor Castle for a week with Jane Goodall and 20 other environmentalists.
What I Can Share with Hosts
If you have two pots and some rice, I can definitely cook you some Japanese curry.
If you'd like to learn to speak, read, or write Japanese or Spanish, I can help you there as well!
I often work at an adventure camp, so if you have children I can shower them with games!
