About Me
Hi!
My name is Kate Panizza, I am moving to London in November of this year and I would be thrilled if you would consider letting me stay with you.
I’m 25 years old, and I currently work as a hotel services clerk in a small hospital that specializes in corrective and cosmetic surgical procedures in addition to palliative care. I really enjoy my work as it makes me feel like I am doing some small good in the world. I previously worked in advertising for a couple of years.
I graduated university in 2015 with a BA in Mass Communications, Film and Marketing. That same year I completed a solo tour of Western and Central Europe, some of the Mediterranean and the Balkans, as well as Morocco and Turkey.
I love dogs, never had a cat so can't really tell you if I'm a fan or not.
I'm not allergic to any foods, and working in a hospital I am fully vaccinated human.
Respectful and clean person to live with.
I've done the tourist thing and it's cool, but I like CS because you get to share somewhere new with a local.
I have successfully applied for a two year youth mobility visa to live and work in the UK where I hope to experience a different lifestyle, make new friends, hopefully form a more creative career and start a new chapter of my life.
I will be arriving in London in November but don’t have any work/ accommodation lined up until January 2019 If you have a space for me between then that would be amazing!
I would be more than happy to lend a hand with any jobs you may need help with. Maybe you need a wall painted, dogs sitting or help with your small business… can do.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I have already made some great friends through CS and would love to make some more. I've had people come and stay and I've visited others while on some epic adventures. I'm planning to move to London so would really love to meet some great new friends and I can't think of a better way to do that than CS.
Interests
I personally am not your typical surfer, beach type Aussie. I prefer movies, seeing live local music gigs with my friends, watercolour painting (not that I’m particularly good), mediation and yoga (again, I’m not great at this), long walks and visits to galleries and museums
I love travel and seeing new places – I have a never ending list of places to see and no money to see them with. At the moment Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, South Korea and Japan are on the wish list.
I'm not a great cook, but if you are I would love to learn. I really like Japanese food, particularly Teriyaki Salmon (it’s my go to). I’ll also never turn down a good curry or biryani. I prefer I nice glass of wine or cider to beer.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I am really into soul music at the moment. I think that has something to do with Leon Bridges. I also like a lot of Australian musicians – Matt Corby, Electric Fields, Tash Sultana, and Alex Lahey.
Movies: This is a hard one… I’m a sucker for anything life affirming and upbeat. So yes, I’m all for Richard Curtis films. I watch Secret life of Walter Mitty every time I go traveling.
And I think the film Stranger than Fiction is underrated. It has a thoughtful aesthetic, and the underlying message of the importance of life’s details really resinates with me. Films I struggle with tend to be gore and horror (so if that’s you all the way, you may have to persuade me).
Books: Tricky... I'm reading The Lonely City by Olivia Laing at the moment - so far pretty interesting. Laing looks to understand how loneliness has shaped some of New York's most compelling artists. For anyone who has creative pursuits you will know that it's often a solitary and sometimes isolating experience. So this book is an interesting one to pick up should you be ever in doubt about the purpose of loneliness in pursuit of art.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
It's took me by surprise, but working on a palliative care ward and sharing in peoples grief and final moments on earth has easily been one of the most amazing and privileged experiences of my life.
Teach, Learn, Share
I have helped friends with English language practices and how to get work in Australia - if that's something you would be interested in.
I would love to learn about some of your interests and try something new.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'll do whatever it takes to be amenable :) I would like to pitch in and lend a hand with anything you may need help with - this makes me feel much more like a mate and less of a burden.
My list of odd and silly stories to share, is only growing with time.
