About Me

Growing up, I went by Katie Terry. I had the perfect name. It rhymed, they were symmetrical with five letters each, and my initials (KT) sound like my first name. 'This is a brand name,' I thought to myself. I was proud of my name. And then one day (when I was 17), a singer named Katy Perry stole my name. And she even spells it wrong. I had to relinquish "Katie," and now I go by Kate. But I was right about one thing - Kat(ie/y) (T/P)erry is a brand name :) Now, I think I prefer the name Kate more, especially since my mother named me after Kate Hepburn. ~The stuff about Katy Perry is a joke by the way. I'm not that serious about her transgression ;)

I was born and raised in the LA area and still reside here. LA and California culture has really influenced me. I love fine art, music, and entertainment, which is California through and through.

What I love about Los Angeles is our diversity. We have a large influx of immigrants from all over the world, including Asia, Europe, South America, and the Middle East (I especially love the food everyone brings). I also love the subcultures among the people who were born and raised here.

Because of where I grew up, I am very tolerant of people who differ from me and I enjoy meeting all kinds of people. I fair on the reserved side, and therefore, am not the boisterous, outgoing type. However, I do enjoy exchanging ideas, breaking bread, and sharing drink with others - I just do it in a quieter way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm couch surfing because I have always wanted to explore the world. Not to sound redundant, but I enjoy meeting new people, making new friends, and eating good food. Unfortunately, I have not been blessed with a surplus of means to facilitate my adventuresome spirit. Couchsurfing is my "financial aid."

Interests

I love fine art. I studied fine art from seven years old to twenty. And I apprenticed with an established painter my senior year of high school. I love art, both admiring others' work and creating my own. I aspire and work towards becoming a professional artist.

I also love music. I enjoy going to commercial concerts, as well as supporting the local bands in my community. I think the gallery scene and music scene are very similar. There might be a little more substance consumption at a concert though :p

I love animals and nature. I enjoy being outside, especially hiking and camping. And I would like to try mountaineering one of these days. I like the beach, but I love the mountains and trees.

Lately, I've been very interested in physics. Space, the spacetime continuum, and quantum leap are very intriguing to me. But I won't bore you.
