About Me

I'm a 26 year old female English teacher living in Saza, just outside Sasebo City in Nagasaki. I have lived in Japan for over a year and have had loads of great experiences here! I can speak survival Japanese (nowhere near fluent), and English.

I'm free most weekends but I need notice to ensure I'm not traveling myself that weekend.

No pets. I smoke but not inside the apartment.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am looking to travel and share experiences with locals in the places I visit. Although I've had some great experiences staying in hostels and hotels around Japan, I want to be able to visit a more diverse range of places that Couchsurfer opens up to me.

Interests

I am currently studying nihon buyou (traditional Japanese dancing). I also enjoy going to restaurants and bars on weekends and trying lots of different foods. I like traveling, and going to local festivals.

I also like video games, which I guess is an interest even if it's not very interesting.

Music, Movies, and Books

I prefer old school rock to most music, but I enjoy Jpop/Jrock/Kpop as well. I'll listen to anything though, depending on my mood.

Favorite movie is hands down Gladiator, but I also like the Star Trek reboot movies and Pixar movies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In Japan there have been so many that I don't think I could narrow it down to just one. The range of experiences have been insane. If I had to choose I'd say participating in Sasebo Yosakoi matsuri was something I was incredibly proud of doing. Dancing all day, seemingly without break, and seeing the energy and smiles of everyone around me was incredible.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can definitely take people around my local area, but also on certain days I can share other experiences - such as kitsuke (kimono dressing) for women, or even a chance to go to a dance class if you want to learn a local folk dance!

I also am well acquainted with the local bar owners, if you want to get to know the locals in the area.

I want to essentially share a good time and a new friendship.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I live in a 1LDK apartment, so I can't offer a private room. I do however have a futon and floor space for a single traveler. I can provide sheets, blankets and pillows but please bring your own towels.

I have a small kitchen and shower/bath/laundry facilities. I also have wifi and aircon/heating so that's always a plus.

Saza also has a number of good restaurants and bars that serve excellent food that I am more than happy to take you to!

I cannot drive, so if you want me to show you around the area, it'll be through the quaint Matsuura Rail system that operates out of my town. Little one man, single cart trains that run every 30 minutes. Saza Bus Center/Train Station is less than 5 minutes away from my apartment and offers buses and trains to Northern Nagasaki (Hirado) as well as further afield to Nagasaki City and Fukuoka.
