About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Fundraising for my trip!

ABOUT ME

I have recently moved to the other side of this amazing planet.....I wasn't exactly expecting it, but I came back to Australia for a 3 month holiday and decided to stay indefinitely. I lived in England for most of my life, apart from the last 9 months and time that I have spent travelling. I spent a long time working hard in London, pursuing my passion for teaching (particularly in the area of special needs and art and play therapy) until I got fed up of the system and am now studying an alternative, holistic approach to education in Melbourne. It's been a really big year for me, I have finally been getting to be really creative and I am now about to embark another passion which is travel! I am about to set off on a journey to New York, then to London and then to work and travel in India for a while before returning back to Australia.

PHILOSOPHY

I am a positive and cheerful person. I'm easy going and use my sense of humour to navigate through most things in life but I also have a deeper side to me.

I am more than my physical body, I am a soul, I am a spirit.
I believe that we are here to explore love, freedom and fraternity.

"The healthy social life is found when, in the mirror of each human soul the whole community finds its reflection and when, in the community the virtue of each one is living." (Rudolf Steiner)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have just joined and look forward to upcoming adventures. I hope to host when I have more of a permanent abode.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Pending! My cousin has couch surfed a lot and got me interested! I look forward to my first meeting with the CS community and hope that some kind people are going to introduce me to New York.

Interests

Music.
Singing my heart out, playing violin, going to gigs, listening to an eclectic range. A slice of my collection would look like: Cinematic Orchestra, Fela kuti, John Lee Hooker, Erykah Badu, Boards of Canada, Vampire Weekend, Groove Armada, Talib Kweli, Alice Russell, Nick Drake, Ella Fitzgerald, Curtis Mayfield, Beach House, Sigur Ros, Leonard Cohen, Phosphorescent and on and on....

Creativity
Reading, sculpting, painting, drawing, taking photos, writing, dancing! I have always been interested in art, history, philosophy and esoteric writers but am currently getting to indulge in studying all of the above full time as I am completing an advanced diploma in Anthropophosy (see Rudolf Steiner's philosophy).

Community and the environment
I've been pursuing my interest in permaculture and sustainability here in Melbourne and love being outside working and breathing in nature as much as I possibly can. I've always had jobs that involve supporting/developing connections in the community. Now I am enjoying sharing my skills in new ways and learning about living in a balanced, healthy sustainable way. There are some incredible artistic and environmentally minded communities in Melbourne. I am going to India in January to work for an NGO with people who I met through the environment park here.

My idea of a perfect day is cycling along the Merri Creek on my bike, exploring corners of the city, taking photos, drawing, eating, writing a bit, meeting friends, laughing, going to a gig or an event.

Music, Movies, and Books

Poetry......Maya Angelou, Hafiz, Naruda...
Novels...Tim Winton, David Mitchell and Paulo Coehlo are are some of my favourite authors.
Autobiographies and biographies fascinate me.
Anything I can get my hands on relating to Anthropophosy!
I currently have a reading list as long as my arm including the Ramayana, Homer's Odyssey and the epic of Gilgamesh for my course.

I like a lot of different movies but some favourites include Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire, Some like it hot, Tarantino's Kill Bill and the swedish film As it is in Heaven.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Astounding beauty can be found in the smallest and simplest of places. One cold spring day I returned from work and took my cup of tea out to the back garden. The afternoon sun was at just the right angle and the air temperature was such that each tiny particle of tea vapour was clearly formed and illuminated by the light as it swirled up from my cup. It sounds ridiculous, but I sat there for at least 20 minutes with pure bliss in my heart as the molecules danced before my eyes in the most beautiful patterns I have ever seen. Microcosm - macrocosm.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can offer you my honesty, humour and enthusiasm for life, will happily cook you a meal, take you out for cake, tell you stories and listen to yours. From some of those stories, I guess you might learn something of Anthropophosy (at least how to pronounce it which is somewhat of a feat in itself) which is an esoteric subject that not that many people know about.
