About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live, learn, expand my horizons.

ABOUT ME

Hello one and all!

I'm Kate. Pleased to meet you over the internets. I'm 19 and currently at the University of Warwick reading sociology.
I don't really know what my goal in life is. That's a big question. I'm not really religious or career orientated. I love knowledge. I think that you can learn so much just by talking to people. Maybe it's my sociologist self talking, but I think people are fascinating. YOU are fascinating! You've done so many things that I've never done. Maybe you can speak a language or build a wall or do an excellent impression of Oscar Wilde. Maybe you could teach me something that you know, or tell me a story I've never heard. We'll never know what we could contribute unless we meet. So I suggest we should do that.

Things I like include, but are not limited to: acting, baking (im not very good), beer and cider, local foods (any foods, ha), music you can really dance to, teapots, festivals, mud, blue skies, seeing the bigger picture, constructive debates, dreaming radically, the planet.

Recently, I've really enjoyed having a go at a more freegan lifestyle. I've been bin-diving a few times and I'm starting to get more savvy on wild foods. I don't know much yet but I'd really like to.

I'm also a morris dancer. Yes, you heard.

Hope we get to meet sometime!

PHILOSOPHY

The Lesson of the Moth

i was talking to a moth
the other evening
he was trying to break into
an electric light bulb
and fry himself on the wires

why do you fellows
pull this stunt i asked him
because it is the conventional
thing for moths or why
if that had been an uncovered
candle instead of an electric
light bulb you would
now be a small unsightly cinder
have you no sense

plenty of it he answered
but at times we get tired
of using it
we get bored with the routine
and crave beauty
and excitement
fire is beautiful
and we know that if we get
too close it will kill us
but what does that matter
it is better to be happy
for a moment
and be burned up with beauty
than to live a long time
and be bored all the while
so we wad all our life up
into one little roll
and then we shoot the roll
that is what life is for
it is better to be a part of beauty
for one instant and then cease to
exist than to exist forever
and never be a part of beauty
our attitude toward life
is come easy go easy
we are like human beings
used to be before they became
too civilized to enjoy themselves

and before i could argue him
out of his philosophy
he went and immolated himself
on a patent cigar lighter
i do not agree with him
myself i would rather have
half the happiness and twice
the longevity

but at the same time i wish
there was something i wanted
as badly as he wanted to fry himself

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I don't have a couch (or sofa, as I'd prefer to call it) for to surf upon currently, as I'm living in halls. Things might be different next year.
But any time you're around for a cup of tea and a cake, I'd be thrilled!
My languages are very limited, but that's something I hope to improve...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being in love is the best thing that has ever happened to me.
As far as travel and sights are concerned... I still have alot of time in front of me.
Working for Weirdigans Festival Cafe was pretty amazing, because of all the people, especially those living alternative lifestyles, that I got to meet. Watch out for us again this festival season!
