ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Kate. I'm from Palo Alto, CA and I'm a history major at the University of Washington in Seattle.
I've been traveling all my life, something I can thank my parents for. The first trip I can remember is a 3.5 week trip around Europe when I was 5, but that's mostly because my dad took an amazing home video of that trip that I still love to watch. I was so cute!
I lived in Tokyo, Japan for 2.5 years when I was in elementary school (8-10 yrs old) and during that time my mom really went crazy with the traveling. We went to China (Hong Kong and Beijing), all over New Zealand, Thailand (Phuket), and the Philippines. It was a really great experience all around, but it ruined me for life. I can't stop traveling!
Right now I'm in my second wave of traveling, exploring the world without any family members. It's a whole new world when you just travel with friends. One of my favorite things about traveling is the people you meet on the way. There's that instant bond when you run into another English speaker in a foreign country. Also, as a History major/International Studies minor I love finding out new things about a country or a culture. I have an obsession with audio tours.
As a student at UW I helped start an a capella group during my sophomore year called Te HusKeys. Check us out at our youtube page here: http://www.youtube.com/user/kswcarey. This is a real point of pride for me because when I got to UW there weren't and a capella groups and I helped make it happen. In our second year I arranged two songs for the group, "Short Skirt/Long Jacket" by Cake and "Merry Happy" by Kate Nash. I'm also teaching myself the guitar. I'm still learning and growing as a musician but this is something that I want to continue doing for the rest of my life.
Right now I'm studying abroad in Guadalajara, Mexico. Check out my blog about my adventures in Mexico at http://katestraveljournal.blogspot.com/ and my videos from Mexico at http://www.youtube.com/user/MexiKate.
