About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To leave the 'city' of my comfort and go into the wilderness of the unknown. What I'll discover will be wonderful. What I'll discover is myself.

ABOUT ME

Hello! Or howzit! as we say in South Africa. I'm Kate.

I'm here to really make the most of my time on earth. Said to be a dreamer...but hey, even castles in the sky can do with a fresh coat of paint.

Love adventure and spontaneity — the best experiences and stories always come from the unexpected! Really believe in opening my mind, arms, and heart to diverse people, new ways of thinking, and a mixture of cultures — we are united in our differences. I feel that human beings are the opium of life, I love to get drunk on humans.

I appreciate life's small beauties and live everyday at my own laid-back Kate pace. I prefer not to walk on the pavement and hate it when the loo paper is put on the holder backwards. Singing and playing piano are two of my favourite things in the world.

PHILOSOPHY

"Think outside the box, collapse the box, and take a fucking sharp knife to it." Banksy

"Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic.
Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don't bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: 'It's not where you take things from - it's where you take them to.'" - Jim Jarmusch

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

By traveling and by being a guest, and also by hosting in Cape Town.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Had my first CouchSurfing experience the first weekend of September 2012, being a guest in Montpellier, France, and it was so much more than I could ever have expected!

Since then have couchsurfed in Thailand, India, China, and Italy — there really are gorgeous people waiting to be met in every corner of this world!

Interests

I am a lover of languages, spontaneous adventures, biodiversity, puns, conversations with strangers, and music from around the world, with a strange admiration for beautiful handwriting, vulnerability, and cinnamon. I like to combine imagination with precision, and don’t take life too seriously.

Music, Movies, and Books

Most music except heavy metal.
Love reading...often end up reading self-development books!
Movies, I ain't so fussy, but not into gore and violence.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm pretty blown away by the world in general.

Antarctica has to be one of the most exquisite places I’ve ever had the fortune of experiencing. The last great wilderness on earth...words can’t begin to describe.

I must say that hiking for 2 nights and 3 days in the Drakensberg mountains, with no signs and nothing but a map, a backpack, and two friends, was probably one of the most epic adventures of my life. Ask for stories of this adventure when we meet :D

Teach, Learn, Share

I feel strongly about sharing the gift of embodied, enriching sexuality, and transparent, meaningful communication. Check out our website to find out more! https://www.touched.co.za/

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'll sing and play piano for you (if you have one)! Can also make beautiful super-quick friendship bracelets :)
