ABOUT ME

(Kater) I'm a writer and artist. I write mostly speculative fiction, primarily urban fantasy, horror, and humor. My art tends towards 3-D and interstitial.
I am married to Jeremy Cheek, and we have two children. I used to travel extensively, but since the children were born have stayed home and only travel once or twice a year. Jeremy and I do a lot of renovations on our house, and I have several vegetable gardens.

My purpose in life is to create.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have guest rooms, which are often (but not always) rented out to exchange students. We also have a couch. When the children are older, Jeremy and I would like to travel again, so hosting now is a way for us to build up karma-points.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When I was backpacking around Europe I arrived in Bratislava late on a Friday night, not having a guidebook or knowing any Slovakian. The tourist office was closed. If a nice person hadn't let me stay with him, I would have been sleeping rough.

兴趣

Art and literature, but not necessarily LITERATURE as I am a genre writer. I love science. Jeremy (we're a package deal) is into music, especially folk music from different countries (Bhangra, English, Middle-eastern, etc.) Jeremy and I have both been folk dancers (Morris for him, morris and tribal for me)

I read non fiction about science for fun, and fiction (SF and fantasy) for "work". I like music, but I'm not passionate about it. We don't watch television, and rarely movies.

A couple years ago, I learned how to blow glass, which I've always wanted to do.

I know how to garden in the desert. We both know how to repair and maintain a house. I've met a lot of writers. I've worked with almost every art media. I got mad cooking skillz.
