Hello from Jon and Kate! Kate is originally from Siberia, Russia and Jon was born in California and lived in 5 states. We have met in Xi’an, China, where we were both working. Kate is an English teacher and Jon is Geology professor. We’re currently residing in Santa Clara county since September 2022. It’s Kate’s first time in the US, although she traveled and lived in 19 countries.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

Kate: For me, travelling isn't about places, it's about people. I've met some incredible humans here, many of whom became my friends. Not everyone is willing to open their heart and share their home with others, it takes courage and kindness. That's how i know that people i meet here are special, we share the same values and spirit. Furthermore, what can be better than to go to the new place on Earth knowing that a friend waits you there? A friend you haven't met yet.
Jon: wants to try it out, because Kate voted for it.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Kate:
- 5000 km hitchhiking trip across Russia (from Baikal Lake to the South);
- organizing CS meet ups for 1.5 years in Xi'an, China and helping out travelers on a daily basis.

Jon:
- got a Fulbright grant twice;
- got PhD in Geology;
- went to 14 countries;
- lived in Russia for 2.5 years.

We are easygoing and fun to be around, up for anything - hiking, travelling, hanging out, eating out, chatting, going for walks, sightseeing, you name it. We were living and travelling in different countries and environments, so we are quite flexible and chilled. Love animals! Always super excited if you have some pets! Kate hosted more than she surfed, so we know how to be respectful surfers ).
