About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Youth Development - which in practical terms, means I teach English and Computers/Technology to 5-11 formers in a school in Western Ukraine. The Peace Corps seemed like a good change of pace before graduate school, and so far it's been a wild ride.

ABOUT ME

I make up stories in my head about people I see, and I'm always pleasantly surprised when people's real stories are crazier than what I've imagined.

I'm a nerd, geek and possibly a dork who is spending two years of her life living and working in a foreign country.

When that's done, I plan to go to grad. school and learn how to engineer an army of three-armed minions with super-awesome vascular systems. Or just spend my life looking at the beautiful patterns blood vessels form when they're stimulated to grow.

PHILOSOPHY

Haven't really thought about it, there's too much living to do to think about "why".

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've met several of the couch surfers my boyfriend's hosted and stayed in Iceland via couch surfing. Figured it was about time for me to get a profile of my own.

Interests

I spend a lot of my free time here (in Ukraine) knitting, increasingly on masochistic projects. Double knit an adapted fair isle pattern into a scarf, and then decide on making a matching hat? Why yes, I have. In sock yarn.
I also love reading, and listening to music, and dancing like a fool when no one is watching.

Music, Movies, and Books

Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and anything by Mel Brooks. Also, the Princess Bride. Anything that assumes its audience has half a brain already has an advantage. My movie tastes are much harder to pin down than my taste in books or music, though.

I love ska, and classic punk but I can listen to almost anything as background. Westbound Train, the Clash and the Bosstones are all particular favourites, and Obi Fernandez of WBT could sing my pants off in an instant.

I read often and somewhat indiscriminately, but some of my favorite authors are Roald Dahl, Arturo Perez-Reverte, Phillip Pullman, Neal Stephenson and Margaret Atwood. I have a soft spot for science fiction, but I'll give any author a try once.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just one? The first time I looked at an overgrown capillary network was amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I knit, and if people want to learn, I'm willing to attempt to show them.

I've never quite been able to get the hang of a crochet hook, but there are some bad-ass patterns I'd love to try.

Countries I’ve Visited

Dominican Republic, Iceland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Turkey

Countries I’ve Lived In

Ukraine, United States
