About Me

I'm an Australian but have been living in Scotland, where I have just finished studying a Masters of Public Health. I'm now travelling for about 5 weeks in Italy. Until recently I was working back home in Australia in social policy but decided I needed a change and so quit my job for a new adventure. I'm interested in social issues and politics, and have been active in environment and social equality movements.

I used to couch surf a lot when I was younger but haven't in a number of years, and am really looking forward to doing it again soon. I'm wondering how much it has changed since Air BnB started. I'm interested in a lot of things and can find something in common with most people. I love cooking and sharing food with hosts/surfers/friends (vegetarian), I love hiking and being outdoors, reading books and talking about ideas and politics.

I believe I have a pretty inquiring mind and I'm always up for learning new things from new people. But I think it goes without saying that to be a couchsurfer is to be open minded, tolerant and interested.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have met some really incredible people through couchsurfing and think it is a brilliant concept. I know I will continue to involved as a surfer (and hopefully host) long into the future. Its just so much better than staying in hostels and hotels! I'm a very community minded person and really value sharing and generosity in others and hope that I am like this myself. Unfortunately I've never been in the position to host due to share house living arrangements but I am planning to start when I move back to Melbourne in November.

I have surfed in the UK, US, Mexico, Turkey, Croatia, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Poland and South Africa, and have met up with travellers and locals in Japan and Australia. Some of these have been among my best ever travel experiences and I have even made some lifelong friends!

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm pretty open to most types of music - I love electronic music, some classical, alternative indi and folk. Going to music festivals is one of my favourite things, to discover new artists and dance and enjoy with a crowd.

I don't really watch much television (I've never owned one) but my favourite show recently was fleabag. I'd prefer to read a book and recently have been loving Ali Smith. Recommendations welcome :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I love cooking and eating. Sharing food with my hosts is one of my favourite things to do which couchsurfing. I also love learning about the cuisine of the places I am visiting.
