About Me

"Life's too short" and "you only live once" were the phrases that my husband and I found ourselves repeatedly using before we took the decision to sell up and travel for 2 years. We have been really fortunate to have wonderful holidays to beautiful and remote locations in the past, but felt that we really needed to immerse ourselves in travel for more than a couple of weeks at a time.

And so our life changing journey began on the 1st September 2016.

I am a 37 year old accountant, originally from Leeds, England. I have been living and working in the Isle of Man for the past 14 years. I love the Isle of Man, its scenery, mountains, beaches, peace and tranquillity, but yearned to see more of the great wide world.

This journey has so far taken us through 12 countries of Asia, camper-vanning around Australia and on to Indonesia.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My husband and I always like to try and do things as the locals do them. Our most memorable experiences have always come from talking with local people, experiencing local customs and getting off the tourist trail.

It would be great to use Couchsurfing as a way to make new and long lasting friends in new places.

Being able to offer up our own accommodation to other Couchsurfers, upon our return to the Isle of Man, will also be exciting for us.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - anything goes...from The Beatles to Nirvana to Morcheeba!

Movies - Danny Boyle movies are great, but again...anything goes!

Books - Anything available to swap / borrow in a hostel, especially non fiction relevant to the region in which we find ourselves.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

So many amazing experiences to mention, so here's the short list...

1) Selling up and leaving behind everything to travel the world!

2) Isle of Man Parish Walk Finisher - 85 miles in 21.5 hours, losing toe nails and gaining blisters in the process...ouch!

3) Swimming with bio-luminescent plankton, sleeping in the desert under the stars, watching the sun rise and set at many a breath taking location,

4) Supporting my husband to (and across) the finish line of two Iron Man UK ultra-triathlons.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach - Happy to assist with conversational English skills and any business / accountancy related topics.

Learn - Eager to learn and absorb everything going!

Share - Conversation, experiences and accommodation.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I like to learn about local customs and delight in being able to share my own experiences and culture with others. Being from the Isle of Man generates a lot of intrigue among the people that we meet on the road...especially those that might have heard of the annual TT motorbike races!

My husband and I are fun, genuinely interested in others and eager to absorb ourselves in the culture of our hosts. We are also more than happy to "muck in" and contribute - my husband is a great cook, whilst I am happy to do the cleaning up and tidying.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Cambodia, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Laos, Malaysia, Morocco, Myanmar, Northern Ireland, Philippines, Portugal, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkey, United States, Viet Nam
