About Me

Hello! After 3 years I'm back in Couchsurfing and would be happy to host people from time to time in Berlin and start traveling again!

I live in Berlin where I'm working in non-formal civic education.

I'd say I'm a rather friendly and helpful person, neither shy nor over-extroverted. I like meeting (new) people and talking about everything and anything, preferably over a cup of tea (which can be optionally replaced by a glass of beer in the evening ;) )

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I came across this way of travelling by some friends telling me about their positive experiences. I think this is a great idea to explore new places alternatively and show one's own home(town) to other people.
Such great experiences so far and I'm looking forward to make more!

Interests

I really like being outside - in the park, near the seaside, cycling or swimming in the lake. My place in the southwest of Berlin is the perfect place for that!

I also love reading books and the newspaper - the library is one of my favourite places in the city I can often be found at when the weather is not good ;)

Cooking and baking are also a huge interest of mine and I'm always interested in sharing vegetarian/vegan recipes. I am really into sustainability and we try to live as ecological as possible. Therefore we don't have a car and buy almost everysthing second hand. I'm a very active member of "Foodsharing", an initiative fighting food waste where we get almost all our food from - things that would have gone into the bin otherwise. I'm vegetarian/vegan and did some wwoofing on a farm in Denmark which was a fantastic experience.

If you're into a green lifestyle I would be more than happy to learn more from you and share ideas.

Music, Movies, and Books

To be honest, there are a lot of "classical" movies and series I do not know. A fact that sometimes leads to funny reactions either because people can't believe that living on this earth for 22 years without having seen those films is possible or because I simply don't get a joke and start asking stupid questions, not realising that it is taken from a movie...

I like reading books about history, politics, other cultures and biographies.
My favourite German authors at the moment are Erich Maria Remarque, Stefan Zweig, Hans Fallada and Bernhard Schlink.

Concerning other languages I really like George Orwell, Oscar Wilde, Jodi Picoult, Warris Dirie and Jonas Jonasson.

I love audiobooks and listen to them practiacally half of the day - while cooking, cleaning, waiting for the train, taking a break and sometimes also while going to sleep.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Attending the "Redhead Days" in Breda (Netherlands) celebrating my hair color with 1.600 other redheads. Amazing!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Please notice I don't live in the citiy centre, so there are no bars and clubs round the corner. You can reach the city centre within 25 minutes.
But it s a fantastic place for a swim in one of Berlin's lakes in summer! I can offer some good talks, a tour in Berlin or Potsdam and vegetarian/vegan food ;-)
