Overview
About Me
Young alumna and native Southerner taking a few gap years to chase the horizon. Studied Ecology and German at the university, planning to study sociology-ecological systems for a graduate degree and/or bug out to Alaska to become a bush pilot.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To make authentic connections while traveling, more fully experience the areas I’m venturing to, and go beyond the relationships formed through commercial transactions.
Interests
The tabs below give you a pretty wide sampling. I seek to balance the physical and the contemplative, the solitary and the social, as best I can in my life - which means I spend a lot of time alone, thinking or writing, but after hours on the road or in an aircraft, I’ll be eager to interact with my host and explore the new area I’ve ventured to!

Music, Movies, and Books
Films: O Brother Where Art Thou, Terminator, Pirates of the Caribbean (first three only!), Christopher Nolan's films, anything by Werner Herzog
Authors: Flannery O'Connor, Dostoyevsky, Barry Lopez, William Faulkner, Anthony Doerr, Rick Bass, Wendell Berry... I read widely, but my favorite genres are history, literary fiction, short stories, and memoir.
Poetry: Rilke, Eliot, Hopkins, Mary Oliver, Wendell Berry (yes, he makes both lists!)
Currently reading: The Radetzky March (Joseph Roth), Arctic Dreams (Barry Lopez), The Unsettling of America (Wendell Berry)
Music: Symphonic Classical, Indie Folk, and Modern Bluegrass. Almost anything Jason Isbell sings will make me cry or want to run a sprint triathlon.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Flown an aircraft from the 1930’s!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can brew a fresh pot of authentic Southern iced tea (with local honey!), recite a handful of folk ballads, astound or bore you with my repertoire of aviation-and-history-related trivia, identify most of the trees in your backyard, and discuss literature / history / music / ecology / whatever for hours. Above all, I'd love to listen to your story and learn how and why you've walked the path you have in life.
