About Me

I'm WWOOFing and backpacking through Europe for the year! I'll be moving to Alaska in 2016, and available to host more couchsurfers there.

Before this year, I lived in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, USA. Since receiving my degree in journalism in 2014, I live to climb, write, make art, and love.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When my partner and I traveled for 17 days across America and Canada to Alaska, we stayed with many beautiful, interesting couchsurfing hosts who enhanced our trip. This is a fun karmic way to trade cultures for free.

Interests

Growing food and working with farm animals. Creating art, specifically charcoal drawing and oil painting. Outdoor exploration -- the more perilous, the better. Writing newspaper articles, short stories, and poetry.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love to read! Some of the books that have changed my life are: The Lost Language of Plants by Stephen Bruner, The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand , Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk, Siddhartha by Herman Hesse, The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera, A River Runs Through It by Norman McLean, Ralph the Duck by Frederick Busch. My favorite films are Rivers and Tides, Så som i himmelen, and The Waking Life. Music is my sustenance. I love heavy metal and Mozart and everything in between, but my most defining band is mewithoutYou.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

-I lived for a summer in my tent on a friend's farm.
-I drove for 17 days with my partner from North Carolina to Alaska.
-I have been able to tie my loves of farming, the outdoors, and journalism together by writing feature newspaper pieces on outdoor living.
-I won the Norman Mailer award for a short story I wrote.
-In October 2014, I held my first art show with another artist at a popular art venue in Boone, North Carolina, USA.
-I've volunteered for the local homeless shelter, a camp for autistic children, an organization that builds homes for the homeless, and food banks.
