About Me

I recently turned thirty-six. I love to travel and try new types of food. I love guests, but currently am renting a room in someone's home, so I am unable to host at the moment.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couchsurfing to travel and get to know other cities and locations. I think its helpful to have a local perspective on what to do and see, and would love to get some local advice. I'm also on a budget, since it seems that many of the skills I use to earn a living are not compensated.

Interests

Travelling and meeting new people, anthropology, co-creative gardening, playing flute, community gardens, learning new skills, trying local recipes, chocolate, cooking new foods, shopping at local farmers markets, going to school, ninjitsu, partner yoga, contact improv., dance, movies, singing, small business developement, child developement, art. I'm currently an artist working in acrylics, colored pencils and marker drawings.

Music, Movies, and Books

I loved reading Watership Down, The Handmaid's Tale, Anne of Green Gables, Murder on the Orient Express, Atlas Shrugged . I consider these books classics. I made it halfway through Les Miserables, and considered it an accomplishment.I also love reading cheesy romance novels, and I read many of Anne Rice's vampire chronicles as a teen. I liked the themes of mortality and immortality, evil, redemption and spiritual evolution.

My favorite non-fiction includes "The Green Hope Guide to Flower Essences" and "Behaving as if the God in All Life Matters".

I also have to list my book, "Reckless Lives" currently on wattpad.com/KatherineElizabeth as one of my favorites. It's sort of depressing, but definitely has its fun and funny moments, too.

I like many types of music. I especially like rock music, mainly because its newer. I think I've spent a few lifetimes listening to great classical music and therefore its not as novel to me, although there are some incredible musicians out there. My favorite bands/musicians include Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Carole King. I also enjoy jazz vocalists such as Ella Fitzgerald and Dinah Shore.

For movies, I love Beaches, Anne of Green Gables miniseries, Annie, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh, the original Hobbit, the Goonies. I also loved watching Schindler's List, but it took a big emotional toll on me at the time, and I'm not sure I want to watch it again.

TV shows I enjoyed include The Nanny, The Cosby Show and Saved By the Bell.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I tandem skydived off a cliff in Chattanooga, Tennesee, jumped into the Ganges river close to its source in the Himalayas at Rishikesh, India and took a 200 hr. yoga training with Brandon Lee Thomas.
I performed in a gospel concert with several others and a well-known gospel singer headlining.
Visited NewYork City three times on my own.
I was present as an observer at a natural home birth.
Studied ninjitsu and other forms of martial arts with Gregory Howard.
Visiting Germany with my friends church choir.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love sharing my knowledge of the yoga asanas and breathing techniques I learned during my training. I will happily lead your friends and family in a yoga class or two if you like. I can also teach an easy chair yoga routine, which is great for beginners, elders, those with disabilities, or people just getting back into a fitness routine after living a more sedentary lifestyle. I have also travelled in India 7 years ago and would be happy to share my experiences in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Ahmednagar, Khrishna's birthplace, and Rishikesh. I'm sure things have changed since my visit, but I would be happy to share whatever would be helpful or entertaining from my trip. I enjoy hearing your plans and helping you figure out some practical next steps; It's fun for me to offer suggestions and advice, and I feel like its usually good advice.

What I Can Share with Hosts
