About Me

The two things I always have in my car are a kite and a tambourine.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'd rather take the long way, use a map, cook a meal, go barefoot. As an organic farmer from a small town, I appreciate rural communities and their members. I hope to get to know places less by hitting all their high notes, and more by lingering and conversating.
----
Starting mid-May 2017, I'll be roadtripping throughout the West enroute to hiking at least half of the Pacific Northwest Trail in July!

Interests

I love doing pretty much anything outside--especially trying new things. My rural farm lifestyle leads to a bunch of different interests also--making and curing sausage; learning to make cheese and yogurt; fermenting kombucha, hard cider, and beer; preserving and canning food. I also do a lot of writing and reading and cooking.

Music, Movies, and Books

Currently reading: Ed Abbey, Rebecca Solnit, The Sibley Guide to Birds, and always the dictionary. I've been exploring more poetry and essays as of late: Mary Oliver and E.B. White are favorites.

Can't stop listening to: Alabama Shakes, Tuba Skinny, Elephant Revival, Lucius, You Won't, Rising Appalachia, Andrew Bird, Kishi Bashi

I enjoy a claymation or documentary here and there.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once I spent an entire day butchering a whole pig and making Hungarian sausage with a Hungarian butcher who couldn't speak English--while drinking Hungarian liquor and eating the freshest goulash imaginable. Funny enough, this happened literally in my own backyard in Maine.

Teach, Learn, Share

Love talking and learning about plants, farming, food, cooking, social justice issues, and crafting things by hand.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'd be thrilled to share meals with people--I spend a lot of time cooking and eating with people. I'm always excited for good conversation with new friends.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Canada, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden

Countries I’ve Lived In
