About Me

Heya! I'm Kathleen, I never know what's interesting enough to write about myself in these things. I (most likely like many of you) love travelling. I have been lucky enough to travel a fair amount so far, but would like to keep doing so without finance holding me back. I also love food and films, and (when I have the patience) books. I've spent the last two years in a Charity doing youth work, that means I have to stay in 'host families' all over the country, and I love it! I love getting to know new people from all walks of life, and I am a very respectful guest, or so I've been told.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing, like I said above, because I love meeting new people, and I love travelling and Couchsurfing seems like a great way to do both, whilst also saving some money.

Music, Movies, and Books

Well I feel like this is probably a slightly controversial question, as for some people, the answer to this could be a deal-breaker. I'm going to hitch my bets and go for the classic "I like all music" answer. The truth, I suppose, is that actually I'm not a fan of Heavy Metal, or generic boyband 'rock'. I especially like Singer/Songwriter music, with an acoustic style, and music from the 60's. I am quite into some country (John Prine), folky (Mumford & Sons/ Christine Kane), and hip-hop (Tupac & Eminem), and thanks to my dad I also love Bob Dylan.
If I start on movies, I won't stop as I love movies even more than I love music. My favourites are Man on Fire, Matilda, Les Miserables, Lion King, Legends of the Fall, Meet Joe Black, Batman : Dark Knight, Dead Poet's Society, What's eating Gilbert Grape?.. I've gotta stop there or I won't. I love talking about movies, and actors and the Oscars. I'd like to say I'm passionate but also open-minded when it comes to movies.
Books, again I don't want to talk for too long about this because my taste is varied. I'll say that right now I'm reading 'Bossypants' by Tina Fey, Game of Thrones: A song of Ice and Fire, and A Case for Faith by Lee Strobel.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I can be a bit of an 'Adrenalin junkie' and so I suppose some would say it is amazing to jump off the Victoria Falls in a gorge swing, or zip wire off the Great Wall of China. But hopefully without sounding super pretentious, I actually had a far more amazing experience volunteering in an orphanage in Zimbabwe for a month. I suppose that sounds like a cheesy line, but honestly for those of you who have experienced something like this, I reckon you'll agree with me. I'd much rather grow and learn a bit, than get a rush - although both are brilliant.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I guess I can share stories, and lessons I learnt travelling, and recommendations for the countries I've been in. I also have siblings in the UK, Zimbabwe, Cameroon and New Zealand that I could link you up with if you needed a place to crash. I have A-Level Spanish although, it's definitely rusty - so i could share the basics?! I like to cook, so I could cook for you also.
