About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Enjoy and experience the world around me while sustaining a permaculture homestead.

ABOUT ME

I'm very personable and accommodating. I enjoy discussing "the meaning of life" and where we came from. I own my home, and am neat and organized, and am usually juggling a lot of activity at once. I flow well with new people and make friends easily, and am interested in the lives and experiences of my acquaintances.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that everyone should have the freedom to live their lives the way they want to as long as it does no harm to others or the environment. I believe that we should live as sustainably as possible and in balance with nature. I believe that each person should have the freedom to practice any religion, but should not be judged for doing or not doing so. I believe that we should be industrious and productive in our lives, but should be able to balance that out with leisure time.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Share my home, garden and hopefully a meal with fellow couchsurfers

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Although I haven't surfed much, my experiences have been wonderful. As new surfers stay at my home it becomes more and more comfortable and it feels like I am welcoming home someone I already know. I have surfed in Slovenia and the UK. Both times I was made to feel comfortable and it gave me an opportunity to learn more about the culture of those countries. Couchsurfing is a wonderful opportunity to meet people from around the world and extend the sense of family beyond our borders.

Interests

Growing organic food and permaculature are are passion of mine, and one of my greatest pleasures is to serve food direct from the garden, along with a glass of wine! I like being in nature, taking hikes, and camping. My family and children are a high priority in my life, and I love spending time with them, playing games, listening to music, watching a movie. Unfortunately I don't get to do nearly enough of the above, because thankfully I am steadily employed as an accountant, business consultant, and vacation reservation manager, and fortunately enjoy my work.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy all types of music. My favorite band was the Doors, but I love the Moody Blues too. I like listening to newer music as well-Black Eyed Peas, Natalie Merchant,The Decemberists. Leonard Cohen is also high my list.

One of my favorite movies was The English Patient and I got lost in the Battlestar Galactica Series.

I like reading just about anything, but really enjoy good fantasy series.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2006 my son and I hiked to the top of Mt. Elbert--14,400 feet--near Leadville, Colorado. First of all I couldn't believe I made it. When we got to South Elbert at 14,134 it started clouding up. He wanted to get to the peak, so I told him to go ahead because I was moving too slow. I stayed behind, and nestled up for a little nap, but the whole time a marmot kept sneaking up on me attempting to get into my backpack.

In 2001 while biking around Lopez Island in the San Juans, two bald eagles swooped down and were about 30 feet above me. I couldn't believe how big and beautiful they were.

In 1998 my family took a boat ride in the Atlantic Ocean near Cape Cod, Connecticut. We saw many whales, and a mother and calf were telescoping right beside the boat. They were obviously putting on a show for us.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love permaculature and can show you around my garden and talk about growing food and trying to live in balance on this planet. If you want to use your home as a vacation rental I can tell you all about how to do that. If you need to know how to run your own small business I can give you some insight into that too.

What I Can Share with Hosts
