Overview
About Me
I am a Uganda National Team rowing athlete, full-stack software engineer and aspiring homesteader. I was born/grew up in Uganda and moved to the USA for University. After college I moved to Utah to pursue my dream of becoming a Wilderness Therapy Field Instructor, which I loved. In 2019 I qualified to row for Uganda in the Tokyo Olympics and much of COVID was spent rowing. In Aug 2021 my husband and I bought into an off grid agricultural homesteading community in the Utah West Desert. Over the last year we've slowly been building our first house out there, a 114 sqft superadobe dome... think igloo made of stabilized dirt. Our desire is to live a more embodied and connected life, more connected to where our basic needs come from, more connected to soil, crops, grass, sun, rain and sky and more connected to people as we work together on practical meaningful projects.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Staying with people who live in an area allows you to experience a place in a much more meaningful way that you would staying in a hostel. I like the kindness among strangers that this platform facilitates, it makes me feel a part of a global community engaging in exchanges not based on money but rather stories, time and hospitality.
Interests
I am highly attracted to passion. So if you're passionate about something I'll probably be interested in discussing it or better yet doing it with you. I find passion contagious and I get excited by pretty much anything I get involved with. Currently my primary interest are sustainable agriculture, rowing, building a homestead and Eastern Orthodox Christianity.

Music, Movies, and Books
Favorite book: C. S. Lewis' The Last Battle,
Favorite Movie: Moulin Rouge, Lord of the Rings, Gods must be Crazy I
Favorite Music: Depends on my mood. Violinist Lindsey Sterling, Christian rock, movie sound tracks, African pop and Pink. So a little all over the place on that one
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Floating in an underground pool beneath a tectonic ridge: When I was in Iceland (which in itself is unlike anywhere else on earth) I visited the place where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet. As the plates push together they form a ridge that runs across the country. There are caves inside the ridge where hot springs bubble up with the most beautiful clear hot water you can imagine. Clear enough that it reflects the roof of the cave even in dim light. I decided that I couldn't possibly be so close to such beautiful water and not swim! So, clothes and all I climbed in. It was so hot that I could only stand to float on the very surface where the cool air made the temperature bearable. It was incredible!
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you to make a hand carved wooden spoon, proper erg technique or how to greet people in Luganda (language of the Buganda tribe from Uganda).
What I Can Share with Hosts
I am always happy to treat my host to dinner or get ingredients to cook something for/with them at their home. I can share a lot of stories and an enthusiasm for good conversation and adventures.
