About Me
Hi!
I grew up in the beautiful desert country of Namibia and now live in South Africa with my husband Jacob. I am a trained artist and teacher to young children, which is a job I am very passionate about. Jacob is a medical doctor with a special interest in Neurology and the power of our amazing brain! We love living in South Africa, but have decided to take time off this year to travel and work on some personal creative projects.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
As we plan to travel for 4 - 5 months this year, we are on couchsurfing in the hopes of finding some wonderful people to stay with while we are away from home.
Once we are back in South Africa, we would love to reciprocate and take our turn to host visitors from around the world.
Interests
I trained in fine arts specialising in printmaking and sculptor. These days I practice more printmaking especially linocut fabric printing.
As a teacher to young children I also enjoy using my artistic skills in drawing, making dolls, books and other practical resources for children to play with. I am also very passionate about early literacy and working with ESL (english second language) learners.
My husband Jake is a medical doctor with an honours degree in Neurophysiology. He is also a skilled musician (guitarist) and tech nerd/ gamer.
We are both interested in vegetable gardening and sustainable living.

Music, Movies, and Books
Favourite music - I'm a retro soul. 60s folk, motown soul, 70s disco - I could go on!
Movies - Eish. Not too sure I can pick. I'm currently more of a series person, with an affinity for the dry self-deprecating humour of shows like the Office, Brooklyn 99 and Arrested Development :)
Books - Ongoing love affairs with Kate Atkinson, Barabara Kingsolver and Annie Proulx.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Taught over fifty Grade 1 students to READ!!!
Teach, Learn, Share
I would love to teach art skills to anyone who wants to learn, and am also always interested in practicing and improving my art skills - particular in the realm of printmaking, sewing and illustration.
