Overview
About Me
I grew up in Seoul, Korea, and lived in New Zealand for 1 year before moving to Vancouver, Canada for the second half of my life. In the process, I have lived with many homestay families before finding the one I would spend my entire adolescence with.
I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a major in Pharmacology, and after a 2-year hiatus, I am returning to UBC to start medical school this August.
I love playing Ultimate Frisbee. In fact, I will be playing at World Ultimate and Guts Championships 2016 in London, UK in June 18-25. I am planning a big Ultimate-vacation afterwards, backpacking around in different European countries and playing at different international Ultimate tournaments on the weekends, and then heading over to SE Asia to finish off the trip. I am beyond excited to meet new people through Ultimate and couchsurfing and make lasting memories and friendship before going back to school.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Being a Korean-Canadian who has spent half her life in Korea and the other half in Canada means much more than being bilingual. I identify myself as neither a Korean nor a Canadian, but as a hyphen: living in the in-between. Having a good understanding of the two very different cultures, as well as growing up in a highly diverse nation, has made me more culture-sensitive. I am curious to learn more about other cultures by immersing myself in their community and engaging in insightful conversations.
In the past 2 years of funemployment/gap-year, I returned to Korea and met a lot of expats through Ultimate. This has really helped broaden my perspectives and I wish to continue that in different countries. I am quite behind in the current/social issues, but I really enjoy hearing other people’s perspectives nevertheless.

Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you how to throw a frisbee or how to play Ultimate. Most people fall in love with the sport after a few tries, and it is a great way to meet new people!
I can also teach you Korean and English. I have taught SAT at a private academy for many years. I would like to improve my French and German (mostly gone now).
My gap years have been filled with fun and exciting experiences, and I would love to share with you how they have shaped my thoughts. Much of my stories about Ultimate and getting into medical school revolve around a common theme of perseverance and resilience.
