I've lived a fairly mundane existence: grew up in a suburb of Houston, TX, went to college and got a degree, then a Master's just for the heck of it, got a job in Austin, TX and lived there for a decade or so, changed jobs a few times and moved to Portland, OR for another decade and a half. Blah, blah, blah. :-) I learned to paraglide and rock-climb; I traveled to many places around the world and saw them "one dive site at a time". My life has changed dramatically, though, and now instead of "living the good life" I am "living the dream". I live on a sailboat, and am filling in many of the places I missed seeing before. I am exploring the differences between a stationary life and a nomadic one, and am always looking for friends to ponder the mysteries of life with. :-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am interested in meeting people who have a positive look on life, are big-hearted and enjoy travel. I guess this is because that describes me fairly well. :-) I love the idea of cultural exchange that CouchSurfing promotes.

Interests

I love travel (who reading this doesn't?!), scuba-diving, good books, good conversations. I have been a rock-climber and a quilter, and am currently cruising on a sailboat. These days I'm enjoying exploring new towns and anchorages, swimming and snorkeling, and learning Spanish. I love to do yoga, but I am disappointingly undisciplined. (I also enjoy cards and games and jigsaw puzzles, but somehow don't seem to find time for much of that sort of thing these days.)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been cruising on a sailboat since 2011 (along with the love of my life). We started in Portland, OR and after a short summer in Alaska we worked our way down the west coast of America to Mexico, where we stayed for 3.5 years. I was new to sailing when I moved aboard in 2008, and I've learned a lot - am still learning a lot! - about sailing, weather, mechanics, navigation, Spanish, and myself.
