About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I have flown around the state, and am shifting focus to more international adventures. Current expedition: The Balkans!

ABOUT ME

I am a positive, artistic, and outgoing person. Also energetic and fun-loving, I love to meet new people, and hear about people's experiences and backgrounds. I am silly and love to joke around, but can also be serious and sensitive when the situation calls for it. I like to share, and discover similarities with others, and explore universalities of our experiences. I look forward to meeting interesting new people through couch surfing!

PHILOSOPHY

I believe in doing what makes you happy. I strive to live my life this way, and support my friends in doing the same. Be it self expression, prosperity, intellectual pursuits, public service, or whatever it is for you. Building community, making connections, and sharing experiences are invaluable to me. Equality, human rights, and social and environmental justice are priorities for me too, and I try to honor these in my work whenever possible.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am looking for people to stay with while traveling throughout the Western Balkans. I'd love to meet new people, see beautiful sites, and learn about interesting new cultures.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am a first time CouchSurfer, but have heard great things, and am looking forward to whatever adventures await.

Interests

I have a strong love for music, theatre, dance, and other art forms. I am active and athletic, and love volleyball (beach especially), basketball, surfing, and newly am a fan of tennis. I love singing and dancing whenever (and wherever) possible, though I love me some sleep too :) I spend much of my time teaching theatre to children and youth, or serving/bartending, and I actively seek out performance opportunities, from plays to karaoke, dance clubs to arranging a cappella music. I enjoy learning about new cultures, and hope couch surfing can help me discover more and more.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love good music with good vocals and inspired instrumentals. Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Lauren Hill, Whitney Houston, Bob Marley, Cee-Lo Green, and awesome electronica like Imogen Heap. For movies I love comedy and satire, true portrayals of human experience, good romance movies, musicals and well-done action and suspense. I love Monty Python, Mel Brooks, Austin Powers, SNL (the good stuff), Ace Ventura, Waynes World, Brides Maids, Judd Apatow movies. More Serious films, Eternal Sunshine & Children of Men really had an impression on me, Quentin Tarantino movies (tho the violence erks me a little sometimes). Musicals, I love Rent, West Side Story, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Little Shop of Horrors, SPICE WORLD!, The Lion King, to name a few. Books, Lovely Bones, Catcher in the Rye, The Giver, Slackjaw, 1984, Animal Farm, The Bell Jar, Neverwhere. But I'm always I am open to discovering a new favorite! If you think its awesome, tell me why, and I'll probably agree.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I drove the Road to Hana in Maui and saw the Seven Sacred Pools. I also went to Little Beach, which was Awesome!

Teach, Learn, Share

I have yet to CouchSurf, but somethings I've learned from traveling with other overnight accommodations.
1. Be open to change--it's a chance for an adventure! May people think that if their plans change that the trip is ruined, but I've found that if you just go with it, you can have a lot more fun than you ever could have planned for. Granted, a plan can be a good thing, but being open to redefining the plan is whats important. If you miss a train, think of it as an opportunity to explore the nightlife in the city. If your hotel doesn't have any open rooms, its a chance to explore other options. If you miss your bus--hey, now you have an hour to kill to check out the local market!
2. You don't have to be on vacation to be seeing the sites-- I am excited to travel the world, but I ride the bus, and everyday is an adventure, even in the city I live in. You don't have to be on a tour or be in the presence of ancient architecture to be a true sight-seer. Enjoy your surroundings, wherever you are, there's something beautiful to observe from all of it.
