About Me

Hello! I am Katie, and I am from Santa Barbara, California. I'm currently living in Boston, where I study political science at Wellesley College, and dearly love being a student.

I hate pigeons. I love clouds. Reluctant to participate in the capitalist/consumerist routine. I once danced ballet but now I have no moves (i.e. I won't try to convince you that I'm cool). Let's be friends!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on couchsurfing to connect more authentically with other travellers and people. I strongly believe that travel should be possible for everyone, and find traveling alone both fun and empowering. Taken together, this means I am particularly interested in providing a safe space and meaningful experience for solo female travellers...

Send me a message if you're in a sticky situation or would just like to get to know Boston with me!

Interests

I play the guitar and piano and like to draw, read and write. I love being outdoors and meeting new people. I am also very interested in language practice, cooking/learning to cook new things, and in learning about more sustainable ways of living.

Teach me to make crafts, speak your language, cook your cuisine, start composting, do physics, etc. - anything!

Music, Movies, and Books

Some of my favorite singer/songwriters include Joni Mitchell, Ingrid Michaelson, Benjamin Clementine, and Ray LaMontagne. I also adore Fleetwood Mac, and just discovered de Andre.

I am more familiar with books than with films. Some recents and lasting favourites include Seven Types of Ambiguity, East of Eden, 1984, The History of Love, Henry & June, and somewhat pretentiously, Hamlet.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I recently took a few months to travel around Italy by myself. I worked in a vineyard, drifted through a few Italian cooperatives, spent a lot of time outside, overcame my motion sickness, and had all of my meals cooked for me by a group of Italian grandmothers for a week. Ask me about the mafia!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can help you improve your English and could do a fair (basic) bit of teaching/playing music.

I would like to learn how to cook, so I would consider it an honor to help you with your cooking. I am already a skilled dish-washer, so no need to worry about that.

Other things I'd like to know: you, your city, some history, where to find the best food at the cheapest price, best hiking/outdoor experiences, etc.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love conversation, art, nature, languages, coffee, and food, as well as people, and would like to share any of these experiences with you.
