About Me

I am a recent graduate from the University of British Columbia

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am a recent graduate from the University of British Columbia looking to embark upon the next phase of my life and kick-start my career by moving to D.C.! Though I'm a bit nervous, I am really looking forward to new opportunities in an incredible city. My plan is to arrive in DC mid-October and begin looking for a place and a job immediately. What I would truly love for those two weeks of October though is to stay with someone who is passionate about D.C. as a city - it would be wonderful to be introduced to the city by someone who already loves it. I am not just looking for a living arrangement but my first friend in D.C.!

Interests

I love to read and be outdoors. I'm athletic and particularly enjoy biking and soccer. I'm working on my cooking, and I'm pretty sure I'm improving. Great movies, good wine.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Bonobo, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, New Order, Hot Chip, Alabama Shakes, Led Zeppelin
Movies: changes daily, but I LOVE going to the movies.
Books: Lord of the Rings series, Evelyn Waugh, David Foster Wallace, the Outlander series, Kurt Vonnegut, David Sedaris, David Graeber, anything and everything that has to do with cultural or neuropsychology (preferably interacting!)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

"Amazing" seems a bit of a flattering term, but I worked as an intern for an N.G.O. in Kibera, a slum neighborhood in Nairobi, Kenya. It was a 3 month stint and involved a home stay within the neighborhood. Brutal at times, chaotic at others, it was nonetheless always interesting, and I met incredible people who are still friends to this day. My experience not only in Nairobi but in a slum was challenging, eye-opening, and incredible. I am currently looking for work with another N.G.O. as I found it rewarding and challenging.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Dinner! Which I will cook! And good company (I hope). I won't have a ton of stuff up there yet, but I do have a few good stories and a very easy-going attitude. I love to laugh and, more so, to make others laugh. I would like to share a bit of my story with you and hopefully you'd like to share yours with me!
