Hello everyone! I'm Katie. I grew up not too far from San Francisco in Northern California. I consider myself an outgoing, curious, and easy-going person, and I love to meet new people! I went to college for 4 years in California where I studied communications, and then I entered the working-world as a manager at a large retail store. It turned out that wasn't my scene - I was constantly daydreaming of traveling before starting another long-term job. I finally decided to head to Australia for about 6 months, and now I've been traveling for what turned into more than two years!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined couchsurfing in 2012 just to encourage myself to start looking at potential opportunities of traveling but just now I am going to take advantage of the amazing site! I am hopeful to meet other like-minded people with interests in traveling, and hopefully people who also want to explore or teach me about the area I am visiting.

Interests

I like lots of things - some of those including traveling and seeing new places, hiking, going to concerts, having a beer with friends, taking photographs of new landscapes I've seen, trying new foods, and of course talking to and meeting new people. I tend to ask a lot of questions, I would consider myself a curious person. I was a little bit of a 'worry-wart' growing up, and I'm happy that traveling has helped me learn to go with the flow and not always have a strict plan.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am not very picky when it comes to music, I like most anything (with the only exception of hardcore screamo music). I'll generally listen to artists like Mumford & Sons, Hozier, Jack Johnson, Bastille, and some indie-folk artists. I like to mix it up with dance music like Avicii, a little bit of pop music, or even some country like Carrie Underwood! I love listening to music on roadtrips and just while relaxing.

I am also not very picky regarding movies, but I would have to say I like comedies the most, and horror/scary movies the least. Romantic comedies are some of my favorites, like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, or 50 first dates. I love the movie Elf around the holidays, but enjoy action/drama classics sometimes as well.

I am trying to get a bit more into reading, as when I'm travelling I don't seem to read too much, but am open to suggestions if you have a great recommendation!
