About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To push my own boundaries

ABOUT ME

I like doing things myself, with varying degrees of success. I love cooking for my friends. I can probably knit or crochet you anything you could possibly imagine made out of yarn. My attempts at fixing my bike or learning how to play the guitar have not been as successful, unfortunately, but I'm working on it.

I'm serious about life and the world, and I think we all have a responsibility to take care of what we've been given. That doesn't mean I don't love having a fun time - dancing, singing and just hanging out with friends are among my favorite things. But. I care deeply, and I think other people should too.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I tried some surfing during my North America journey in the spring of 2012, and I LOVED it.

So now, that my living conditions finally allow it, I've hosted some interesting couchsurfers and showed them around my beautiful hometown Stockholm. Great people, couchsurfers!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I did five nights of surfing in Vancouver. And honestly, that was the best part of my visit. I got to meet so many cool people and left the city with a feeling that Vancouver is a really welcoming place - mainly thanks to the great hosts I had.

Later, my surfing experiences in Port Angeles, Seattle, Vienna, Prague and Narvik have been just as amazing.

So, I would say that if the sight seeing lets you see the outside of a city, couchsurfing lets you glimpse the heart of a place. And when I travel, I definitely want to see both!

Interests

Geography and literature, always.
Music and singing, whenever I can, usually annoying the people around me.
TV shows and knitting, as a way to relax.
Horses, when I have the time and money.
Writing, as a way of figuring out life.
Photography, especially when I'm around trees.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a devoted literature, tv show and music nerd, and am always up for a good discussion about Tolstoy, Nina Simone, or why not Game of Thrones.

I enjoy reading everything (except crime novels), from philosophy essays to contemporary Swedish poetry. Among my favorite authors are Catherynne M. Valente, Wislawa Szymborska and Astrid Lindgren.

When university and life in general gets too overwhelming, my coping strategy is to watch tv shows and knit. Among the best tv shows that I've seen are Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Community and Pride and Prejudice (the BBC-version from 1995).

As a seasoned choir singer, an obvious way to ascertain if I'm in a good mood is to listen to me. If I'm singing, I'm probably happy. Mostly, I listen to music that I can sing along to, such as Annika Norlin, Nina Persson, Veronica Maggio and Feist, but I have also been known to listen to piano sonatas by Chopin, Beatles and jazz.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw a rainbow over the Namib desert in Namibia once - and the day after, the beaches were covered in dead white butterflies.

Teach, Learn, Share

You're welcome to ask me anything about geography. I'm love to talk about the complicated carousel that is the climate system, the principles of remote sensing, or my current job: poverty alleviation through sustainable agriculture and water resource management in West Africa.

I'm also really passionate about Stockholm. If you're interested, and I have the time, I'd love to take you on a guided history/architecture/physical geography tour of Stockholm.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Countless travel stories! I'm also a decent cook, can talk about geography and sustainability science for hours, recommend books for almost any taste, knit you a pair of mittens, or sing you a Swedish folk song.
