ABOUT ME
I consider myself to be adventurous, curious, dedicated and passionate. I highly value my education - I love learning new things. If I had unlimited time, there are so many things that I would like to study. The world is infinitely fascinating and I want to know as much about it as I can. Unfortunately I had to grow up and get a real job, so I will settle with learning about the world through the wonderful couchsurfers who regularly surf at my house. I hope to return to studies in the near future though.
I am a minimalist and I like to think that I place little value on the material things in life. I am environmentally conscious (and I respect people who also care for the environment). I am a lefty, borderline socialist, and a hippy at heart.
I am a coffee addict and I'm lucky to live in Melbourne where good coffee is abundant! Actually, I'm lucky to live in Melbourne for many reasons - it's a wonderful city and I love sharing it with people!
No matter where I am living or visiting in the world, I always seem to find like minded people who's company I enjoy. That always makes me smile.
PHILOSOPHY
I can't claim this as my own, but I read this Albert Schweitzer quote a few years ago and it strongly reflects my personal philosophy:
'I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve.'
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
**I used to believe all of the below and I've certainly met some great people through couchsurfing (some of the best and favourite friends in my life are fellow couchsurfers). However recently I just find couchsurfing full of creepy men. I changed my status to "wants to hang out" and received nothing except messages (and random friend requests.. from people I've never met??) from males wanting to hang out. I can bet that most men sending these messages and requests are not sending them to other men. I also think it is very creepy when there is a male host and all of their references are from young females without a single (or very minimal) reference from a male surfer - it is very obvious what is going on there!
The same "advice/guidelines"should apply to sending people messages on here wanting to hang out - make it personal, say why you would want to hang out (or surf with) with the individual you are contacting! Don't just send generic messages.
I'm hoping that my faith in couchsurfing can be restored. But for now I'm changing my status from "wants to hang out" so I stop getting so creeped out".**
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I host, I surf, I attend meet ups
I attend meetups and create events.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I first heard about couchsurfing when I was traveling around India when I was 23. A fellow traveler was talking about it and I thought 'that is the coolest thing I've ever heard of, why am I only just discovering it??' (I had been traveling/living abroad since I was 18 and whilst I had an amazing time, I feel like, had I known about Couchsurfing, I would have had an AMAZING time). After India, I was heading back to Aus to start my medical degree and wasn't living in a place where I could host until 2012 so I finally joined! Since then, I have hosted as much and as often as I have been able. And when I went to Seattle in January 2013, I met loads of Couchsurfers and had an awesome time. Couchsurfing has now become a huge part of my life, I wish I'd gotten involved earlier, but I'm looking forward to continuing to expand my Couchsurfing experience throughout the rest of my life.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies - movies that are so bad they're good (e.g. Evil Dead) and movies that are so bad, they've past good and gone back to incredibly bad again (too many to name)
Books - I don't get as much time as I would like to read books, as I unfortunately spend so much time reading medical textbooks, but generally I like books that make you think and over the past few years I have enjoyed a few Murakami, and Salman Rushdie books. I also absolutely loved The Book Thief and the God of Small Things.
Music - my favourite band of all time is Bright Eyes but indie folk is definitely not the only type of music I listen to. It really depends on my mood!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
sunset over the backwaters in Alleppey, sleeping under the stars in the Simpson dessert, jumping into Lake Washington in the middle of winter, helping deliver a baby for the first time, night surfing at Kirra Beach
Teach, Learn, Share
I am a junior doctor, so if you want to know anything about that, I'm always happy to talk about health and illness..
If you can teach any of the following, I am interested in learning how to:
- play ocarina (I have one, but can't play it)
- make balloon animals
- open a beer bottle with a lighter
- say things in French or Spanish
- poach an egg perfectly
- crack an egg with one hand
- roll a cigarette
- twerk like a pro
- tune my bicycle
- tune a car
- open a wine bottle without a corkscrew
- new card games (especially ones that involve a certain amount of skill and aren't based purely on luck)
I love jogging and I'm always looking for someone to jog with so that's something I'd be more than happy to share with any couchsurfers who stay with me.
