About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My current mission is to figure out what my life's mission is... if that makes sense.

ABOUT ME

I think that everyone has a story to tell and I want to hear it and to share mine. I've lived a lot of beautiful places, met a lot of amazing people, and never want to stop learning. Living abroad has opened my eyes to the beauty, wonders, and sadness of the world. My main goal is to focus on the first two and deal with the third only when I must. The best part of life is being alive so I'm just trying to live every day because I'm lucky to have it!

A couple other things about me. I'm obsessed with Spain. Eating is one of my favorite hobbies so I think I have LOADS of self-control for not being morbidly obese. And I have a very sarcastic sense of humour so don't be surprised if I make fun of you or tell an inappropriate joke once you get to know me even a little bit. I have tact though so I won't make it at an inappropriate time!

PHILOSOPHY

I really wish I had it all figured out... but I don't yet. I have my share of insecurities and fears but I'm working on them. I've met a few people just recently in my life who have taught me huge difference that attitude adjustments will make to your life.

I do have a few basic life rules... I respect everyone, I don't litter and I must recycle, I am very loyal (almost to a fault), and I don't curse in front of small children. Also I know that we will never solve any of our environmental problems as long as people believe they are above nature instead of part of it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Surf and be surfed! I try to host when I can!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couchsurfed in Italy over Christmas break 2008 and I was so pleasantly surprised with how great my hosts were. I can think of a million stories now but the one that sticks out in my head the most is when I went to Rome and my wonderful host drove my friend and I far far far outside of Rome and I was so scared about where he was taking us and we ended up meeting other couch surfers for dinner and then went to a natural hot springs even though it was literally FREEZING outside. That's the kinda thing you never imagine you will be doing a year from now... sipping champagne in a hot spring outside of Rome.

Interests

The outdoors! Especially reptiles and amphibians. I love snakes, turtles, frogs... most anything that makes normal girls cringe. Being inside for too long makes me depressed. I also enjoy cooking, learning new languages (teach me yours!), reading, weird news, photography, dancing, funny tv (if i want to watch something serious, i'll watch the news), traveling.. duh, anything that has to do with the ocean (I REALLLLY want to learn to surf), and I also enjoy teaching and school a lot. I'm a lifetime learner!

Music, Movies, and Books

Movie: Phantom of the Opera (sucker for musicals)
Music: Everything (oh Kat, so cliche) my favorite band is Red Hot Chili Peppers, but I've been really into Flamenquito while I've been in Spain.
Book: recently "A Hearbreaking Work of Staggering Genius"

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I worked with Bald Head Island Conservancy this summer. There I was able to help in the education of residents and visitors about unique barrier island ecosystems and conservation. The most amazing part was I got to see (several times) a female loggerhead sea turtle come up out of the ocean and lay her eggs. Then two months later I was able to see a hatching. We saw a hundred tiny baby sea turtle scuttling their way to the ocean... little soldiers fighting their cause (even though about 1 in 1000 make it to adulthood)! I cant even describe how amazing these sights are! Now I work in Texas taking care of injured sea turtles every day! Life is good :)
