About Me

ABOUT ME

After college I spent about a decade working in offices and working my way up the chain of command. I recently shifted gears, going full-time with my business working as a Professional Organizer. I help people go through their things, clear out what's not useful in the lives, and figure out how to make their space and their systems work for them.

PHILOSOPHY

When I travel I like to follow people - follow their advice and occasionally just tag along with whatever plans they already had. I've done a lot of solo traveling, so I know what kinds of things I will do if left to my own devices. So whenever I have the chance I try to take the advice of others on where to go and what to do, going along with them if they have the time to hang out. Most people don't realize how interesting their normal routines are to someone just passing through. Even an ordinary coffee shop feels special if someone told you it was their favorite!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

A few years ago I took a solo road trip around the United States, and couchsurfed for about a third of my nights on the road. My couchsurfing stays were some of my absolute favorite, but I haven't had a good chance to surf again since. Now I'm back to traveling and looking forward to meeting some new people!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I surfed with several different hosts that summer, and met up with other surfers in Seattle and Memphis.

Interests

Writing, improv, learning, movies, tv, sci-fi, dance (I know some ballroom and wish I did it more), singing, taking naps in the park when it's sunny and warm.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Phantom Tollbooth, The Great Divorce, and The Princess Bride are all books that I have read more than once, and will probably read again.
I grew up on Bonnie Raitt and The Neville Brothers. I like Bob Dylan, but I adore Dylan covers. I'm pretty into soundtracks from musicals (both stage and screen). I like country songs because you can't get through a good country song without a play on words. Most movie ideas I have involve at least one OK Go song on the soundtrack.
I can find something redeeming in almost any movie I've ever watched, because even if it's not very good it's still interesting to think about what didn't work and why. I like Sci-Fi and nerd culture, but that entertainment umbrella is pretty big these days. When I was in junior high I'd watch The American President, Contact, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade a lot.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I performed a play I wrote at the world's largest theater festival. I spent 27 hours in sunlight traveling from Amsterdam to Seattle. I floated down a canyon in Costa Rica and it felt like heaven on earth. I hiked to the base of the Grand Canyon and back.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a lot about cleaning and organizing, which was a subject I didn't realize a person could be an expert on until I realized that most of what I do doesn't come naturally to everyone.
I've also taught classes on productivity, goal-setting, task management, and inbox management, so I'm pretty good at helping people in those areas.
