About Me
Hellooooo! I'm Kat. I'm currently doing my 'in between' travelling thing while I sort out what I want to do with my life haha. Laid-back like most Australians are, wildly passionate about food like most Malaysians are.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
This is awesome. I've stayed with people in their home towns, most of whom I'd only met for a few hours on a pub crawl, or a day or two at a hostel. Every time I've done that, I've gotten this amazing insight into not only their lives but what it's like to live in that city. I've gotten to meet their friends, their family sometimes, seen where they go to drink normally, been surrounded in a different language. It's awesome, and I will forever remember those people for their kindness and generosity and just hope they make it over to Melbourne one day so I can return the favour. Of course, it's great for saving money but mostly it's just a different and awesome way to travel, particularly if you're sick of the hostel lifestyle. And I was just told about this site yesterday and I can't believe there's a site for this haha.
Interests
Nature. I love oceans, lakes, jungles, deserts, rivers, the bush. I'm hoping to get to the Grand Canyon and Yosemite on this trip, hopefully do a hike in the Amazon too if I still have enough time. I have a week-long hike to Machu Picchu planned and I am so excited. I also really like people, I've met so many interesting people already, it's been amazing. I love languages too. Apart from English and Mandarin, I used to be semi-fluent in French, but that's mostly gone now. It's been really helpful while trying to learn Spanish though! Which is the next goal.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love anything kind of soul-y, funky, anything with a brass section. Favourite bands at the moment: Klangkarussell, Kygo, Alabama Shakes, Alabama Shake's Brittany Howard's new solo thing Thunderbitch which I literally just listened to, Lake Street Dive, The Weeknd. Of all time: Beatles, Etta Jones, Rolling Stones, Cat Empire, TV on the Radio.
Movies, anything that Hayao Miyazaki does, Spirited Away has a special place in my heart. Most sci-fi, Blade Runner, Interstellar was amazing.
Books, anything by Neil Gaiman. American Gods and his Sandman series in particular. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, the Game of Thrones series, I don't know what I'm going to do when the show starts surpassing the books, I may have to just not watch it and swear myself off facebook until the next book comes out.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Recently I swam across Lake Bled in Slovenia to an island in the middle with a church on it, despite being pretty scared of lake creatures and a smoker. It was incredible, I was surrounded by a beautiful mountain range and the water was crystal clear and fresh. I got to the island and a man rowing one of the tourist boats said, 'Did you know there are fish in there bigger than you?' And I was like, 'Haha funny joke.' And then he showed me a photo of a 2.5m catfish that they fished out of the lake last year and then I had to swim all the way back.
