Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We've been hosting guests in our Falmouth Maine house, let's try this online in our sailboat!

Our couch is a berth on our 38 foot 1979 Hallberg-Rassy sailboat. It is currently anchored in Coconut Grove Miami, Florida. We can host any day of the week. We are usually in bed by 10pm, awake by 7am, but will be quiet until a little later. Keith works full time weekdays from the boat.

If you have not stayed on a sailboat before, this will be a very different experience than staying in a hotel or in a home. We live very simply in tune with nature. The weather dictates when we can or cannot sail, using solar panels, the daily cloud cover determines how much electricity we will have available.

Living quarters are very close, each person must be tolerant and compassionate for others.

We have a limited amount of fresh water available for drinking and cooking. Cooking is done on a stove fueled with denatured alcohol, or on the propane grill on the stern deck. We have a small icebox on board. Meals are very simple.

Washing up is done using wet wipes and hand towels. Hair washing is not done daily. We use a composting toilet in the head (bathroom) which works very well, however it is different than a bathroom on land.

Of course jumping over the side into the warm waters of the ocean is very refreshing, and highly recommend on a daily basis.

Before requesting a stay with us, please think about the above differences between living on land and a sailboat, we don't want you to come aboard and be surprised or disappointed.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have been volunteering since I was 10, and still love it. CS feels perfect for us as we love traveling and meeting people and learning as much as we can.
This form of social media is astounding in connecting while traveling.
