About Me

Hello Couchsurfers! I'm Katy, and i live near Cambridge in England. I've grown up on the same little farm in 'the middle of nowhere' in the countryside my whole life, and love the peace and tranquility of the country. But it's a big world, and i love exploring it!

A lot of my extended family live in America so I've spent many summers over there with them, and we always manage to fit in a roadtrip to see other states, explore, try new things, and generally go on adventures! I love to experience different cultures, and see how other people live their lives... everyone's different, and i love that.

I love visiting new countries and exploring new cultures, and for the past four years I've lived in the pattern of work-save-travel-repeat! I've done three trips all based around Europe, I've just returned home from my last one which was two months in Eastern Europe, and it was probably my best trip yet - mainly due to the amazing people I met.

I'm very arty, and my main passion is the dramatic arts. I've been singing, acting, dancing, painting, taking photos, and creating arty things for as long as i can remember. And so next year I'm finally going to be putting the travels on hold to apply for drama school in London.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

During my three trips i traveled using a mixture of hostels, Workaway, and Couchsurfing. It's always my goal to meet locals when i travel to a new place because i like to get an authentic feel for the city, and really get to know the life there - which you can only do by meeting and hanging out with locals. I like seeing how different people live, so I'm always interested to stay with people with all sorts of interests, beliefs, and values.

Interests

I'm passionate about all things arty! I sing, act, and love photography and painting. I love the concept that many things can be art forms, and discussing different peoples interests and individual tastes in art can be really interesting. I love theatre, having been in a theatre company for years I've acted in shows and done loads of drama through school, and later i worked in a theatre in Cambridge. Theatre in different countries is always exciting - i saw some 'microthetare' in Spain and though i didn't understand everything perfectly it was so amazing!

Music is also really important to me, i love many different styles, and hearing what other people like. I love to sing, and write my own songs, as well as poetry and creative writing.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like almost all music styles, though my preference is alternative, indie, rock, folk, and country, but also 60's 70's and 80's stuff like The Beach Boys, Motown ect... My favorite bands, some of whom I've seen at festivals in England are Alt J, Mumford & Sons, Biffy Clyro, Everything Everything, Arctic Monkeys, Two Door Cinema Club, The Lumineers, Kodaline, Tame Impala, Foster The People, The Vaccines, Bastille, Imagine Dragons, Green Day, Peace, Foals, Bellowhead... And movies i like loads as well! Harry Potter, Lord Of The Rings, The Hunger Games, any good adventure movie! But i do love the old English classics, so anything written by Richard Curtis and starring Hugh Grant basically! And period dramas are another passion, Pride & Prejudice is a favourite. Books, i like the same sort of thing, Harry Potter and The Hunger Games were great to read. I love anything a bit magical and mystical, my favourite book series ever is called The Chronicles Of Ancient Darkness, which is really interesting.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well I've performed in lots of musicals and plays as i was in a theatre company called Stagecoach while i was at school, and then always did school plays, variety shows, talent competitions, and dance shows growing up. They were all good fun, nothing professional, but maybe the most amazing memory i have of performing was singing solo in my first variety show at school when i was only 11. There was probably over 700 people in the audience, so it was a bit scary at that age, but i loved it, and had people around school saying well done for weeks after.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love learning about different cultures and languages, so I'd be happy to share stories from different ways of life, and am particularly interested to learn about the way you live and about your different beliefs and what you're passionate about. I'm happy to teach, and practice English with you if you're learning or looking to improve. And if you're a native Spanish speaker then I'd love to practice my Spanish with you.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Meeting new people is an experience we never stop learning about. Our world is so diverse and I'm excited to meet and share the experience of life in different places.
