Über mich

Lover of wild places and simple pleasures. Always excited to share experiences, warmth, hilarity, debates and beverages with the people I meet along the way. I've been told I'm an easy house-guest, and fit in quickly with people of all ages and backgrounds. I try always to listen, and learn.

A few years ago I jumped on the van-life bandwagon and lived on the road for a summer, exploring Northern Europe and Scandinavia. I’m now a little more rooted, living out of the van in rural West Sussex, UK, working in community support work at a couple of therapeutic farm and garden projects, and soon beginning my own tiny-house build. The pandemic has brought me a fair dose of difficulty, but accompanied by new lessons in rootedness, empathy and perseverance.

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

I love that travel connects people, and forces us to live in the moment more. As I Couchsurf, I'm hoping these will be big features of my experience. I also love the idea of sharing love, hospitality and help amongst a global community. I'm aiming to host as much as possible wherever I next end up settled and with space of my own to offer.

Interessen

I'm probably happiest when I'm outdoors, ideally with a tent or hammock, a fire to cook on and everything I need on my back. I love to hike, run, wild-swim, snowboard, surf and longboard. Lately I’ve been growing my interest and skills in sustainable, low-impact living, which heavily features permaculture, growing food, foraging, making pickles and preserves, crafting and fixing (knitting, crochet, needlework, woodwork, natural building). And I’m soon to embark on a self-built tiny-house project!

I’ve always had a deep interest in mental health, wellbeing and mindfulness. Hot topics, hopefully for good reason. I think they're things that need the attention. I practice mindfulness meditation and yoga, have an MSc in Positive Psychology and a passion for outdoor therapies, like wilderness- and horticultural-therapy.

Music is something I love learning about and enjoying with others - be it a jam session, close-harmony sing song, concert of some kind, road trip tunes or a whole evening of dancing. I learned flute and sax for a long time, and have also dabbled in self-taught guitar, drums (of all kinds! Samba, djembe etc) and piano. I also love singing at the top of my lungs when nobody else is in the house...

Musik, Filme und Bücher

Music flavours at the mo: Anderson Paak, Still Woozy, Poppy Ajudha, The Breath, Brandi Carlisle, Fatoumata Diawara, Matt Corby, Mammal Hands, Portico Quartet, Caamp.

Lately I've loved films like Hunt for the Wilderpeople, A Hidden Life, Fried Green Tomatoes and Parasite.
The long weeks of winter lockdown also got me hooked on The Great British Bake-Off, Queer Eye and New Girl.

Books - The God of Small Things, Swimming With Seals, anything by Wendell Berry. Tolkien and CS Lewis will always be favourites.
Lately also reading widely on philosophy, race, mindfulness and wellbeing, and religious apologetics. Being more rooted now in rural England I’m also reading a lot about wild plants and flowers, foraging and ecology.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Ridden an ostrich

Lehren, lernen, teilen

Happy to help with English language practice, teach basic beginner guitar/flute/sax, and knitting.

Would love to learn new instruments, languages, crafting and building skills, basic mechanics (cars and motorbikes), and get better at surfing.

Was ich mit Gastgebern teilen kann

I'm very happy to muck in with cooking, cleaning, shopping, and looking after kids or animals. Always enjoy sharing meals (though I have to follow a strict coeliac, gluten free diet), hanging out and swapping stories or skills. I'm told I'm a good listener!
