About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to travel somewhere new at least once a year.

ABOUT ME

I knit. I read. I work too much.
There is a theory floating around in my circle that I might be psychic... or maybe just insanely logical, which often comes across as if I know things I couldn't possibly know. And yet, I do.
I have a breathing furball of a cat named Bob (see photo above) who allows me to share his apartment. He also allows me to feed him and clean up after him. Long-haired Maine Coon, looks like a bobcat, hence the name.

Weird facts about me:
*I've lived on a vineyard and in a trailer park.
*I've taught others how to be clowns.
*In college, I kept a fetal kitten in a mayo jar on my desk. Freaked people out.
*I name all of my stuffed animals George.
*I don't own a television and haven't for years.
*I once went on a double date with my half brother before we knew we were related. He was not my date.
*I'm afraid of heights. Well, of falling, to be honest.

For anything else, you will have to ask.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is too short to stay unhappy. I was unhappy for too long and then woke up. I got a life and am much happier now.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now, I just want to meet people when I travel and in return share the real New York City instead of the tourist-trap nonsense.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Met up with David while in Greece, which led to meeting a friend of his, which led to the best holiday I've ever had. This is a nice way to get to know a place. (This has led to another trip to Greece and an engagement and learning all about the US Immigration laws...)

Hosted Gaelle (offically) & Michael (unoffically) - August 2008

Hosted Ed so an afterparty could have a home during the CouchCrash Festival - August 2008

Hosted Carol & Elrich as part of their around the world trip - August 2008

Hosted Kim & Pete as they passed through NYC between Camp jobs and Chicago on the way to Australia - August 2008

Hosted Jaret as he attempts to never leave NYC - August 2008

Hosted Jessica & Gustav as they headed home to Sweden after 3 weeks in Jamaica - August 2008

Hosted Alice & her friend for one night so they could run in the Human Race - August 2008

Hosted Tanya for 5 days between 8 weeks in Dallas and going home to Moscow to return to school - September 2008

Hosted Daniele for 2 days so he could go to a Mets game before returning to Italy - September 2008.

Interests

Kitting, reading, sci-fi, avoiding tourists, sports of most varieties but especially baseball. Other previous interests include sewing, community theatre, and sitting outside in the rain.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: odd collection of Bollywood, classics, sci-fi, and BBC/A&E. Firefly/Serenity. Horatio Hornblower. Everything Jane Austen.
Music: not really into music, but my CD collection includes Sting, early 90s alternative, a small variety of South African music, Billy Joel, some Bollywood & Broadway soundtracks, some country and some classical stuff.
Books: I'll read almost anything, but especially like sci-fi/fantasy (especially anything published by Baen), biographies, and non-fiction on weird topics like the history of dust or the middle ages.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

At first, I thought my amazing thing is still out there waiting for me to find it. Then on my way home one day, I realized my amazing thing is that I'm happy. I couldn't say that five years ago. I love where I am in my life right now and even if there are still days that aren't great, in general, I love where I live and like my job and have great friends. Who can ask for more?

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm just full of esoteric useless information. Biology major turned theatre major working in Finance with strong computer geek tendencies. Yes, I'm full of weird facts and ideas.
I could also teach you to knit or crochet or almost anything else crafty.
