About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore, learn, and meet as many wonderful people as possible

ABOUT ME

I am currently working for Sleeping Frog Farms in Cascabel, Arizona. I spend three days a week on the farm harvesting produce. The other two days are spent delivering vegetables to restaurants and CSA's in and around Tucson. I live both in Cascabel and Tucson, Arizona. The Sonoran Desert is a beautiful and magically diverse place and I love living here. I love to explore, whether it be the forest, a desert, a new city or an old and vast bookstore I embrace it all. I love to make art, it helps me understand my environment. I write a bit and love to explore new mediums but generally I love to sketch, paint and sculpt using found objects.

PHILOSOPHY

Love is healing and smiles are contagious. Life is about being present and living what you love and it is too short and precious to not discover your passion and pursue it.

If I can make just one person every day smile, feel beautiful, special, important and/or loved then I have been successful.

I believe we always have the choice of how to react to a situation and those choices can transform your mood, perspective and life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have only been a traveler so far, I have stayed in many places around the United States, been introduced to wonderful people and their homes. It is always a pleasure to meet and experience new people and places. Since I live in both Tucson and Cascabel, there is the potential for surfers interested to stay at either location. Since the farm is a community and family environment I would prefer to meet people in Tucson for coffee or as a surfer before bringing people out to the farm. I would be more than happy, when available, to show travelers around Tucson (including some of the restaurants that work with Sleeping Frog Farms).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had four beautiful couch surfing experiences on my travels thus far. In Colorado Springs, Colorado, Columbus, Ohio, Kansas City, Missouri and Carlsbad, New Mexico. All brought me into the company of magnificent human beings. Open conversation and exploration of new cities and the intrigues they had to offer were the highlights. And friendship the take-away.

In Columbus, Ohio, our host Erin, introduced us to Northstar Cafe and their INCREDIBLE beet based veggie burger. No where to date have I had another on par with this glorious, glorious concoction. There is a recipe online for this burger that I urge people to try, or to stop by Northstar if you happen to be in the Columbus area! I have made the burgers quite a few times since then and I have not met a vegetarian nor carnivore who did not fall in love with them!

Interests

I thrive on meeting new people and exploring new places. When picking spinach at 6am on cold mornings in the desert I will fantasize about sitting in some foreign city, perhaps along a canal; sketch book, pen, cappuccino and almond pastry fill the small, round table while I read a favorite novel (maybe Keith Millers, The Book of Flying) and watch passers by. Occasionally I'd pick up the sketch book to scribble a line or two, or sketch an interaction between people on the street.

I love the feeling of walking into a used book store, dusty shelves and worn couches for sitting and losing yourself in potential purchases.

I love to camp, hike, ride bikes, travel, rock climb, garden, invent recipes on the spot, nap and dance. I love to write, sketch, paint, collage, illustrate and sculpt using found objects. I am fascinated with permaculture, homesteading, the sea, space, ancient civilizations and humanities role on this beautiful planet.

Music, Movies, and Books

So many favorites and they are such a dynamic bunch, constantly changing.

Music | Indie, eccentric, folk. Right now I am loving First Aid Kit, The Missing Parts, Foals (Total Life Forever), The Underscore Orkestra, Simon and Garfunkle etc etc etc

Movies | The Life of Pi, Everything is Illuminated, Mirror Mask, anything by Miyazaki, Despicable Me, animated shorts, Sci-fy's Alice ect ect

Books | Both of Keith Miller's fiction novels shoot to the top of my booklist. The Book of Flying and The Book on Fire are lyrical, life altering novels. The Dirty Life, Cloud Atlas, Sirens of Titan and Illusions are other favorites.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Truly experiencing the vastness and beauty of Mother Nature. Standing on the barren Jersey coast watching a hurricane approach. Watching rain move in from the porch of a one room cabin in Moab, Utah, hiding the La Sal mountains from view. Backpacking through the Gila Wilderness in New Mexico on a freezing November night and finally climbing into a hot spring, ignoring the fact that eventually you have to get out...
Sunrise in Cascabel, Arizona 4 days a week. Working in the field and watching the sky-scapes shift during sunset over the Rincon Mountains and the San Pedro River in Cascabel, Arizona.

Teach, Learn, Share

"So thoroughly and sincerely are we compelled to live, reverencing our life, and denying the possibility of change. This is the only way, we say; but there are as many ways as there can be drawn radii from one centre. All change is a miracle to contemplate; but it is a miracle which is taking place every instant" Henry David Thoreau

I would love to cook, collaborate on art, share stories, books, music, ideas, theories, views with anyone interested. I would gladly share any knowledge I have on farming in the Southwestern United states.
