About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Read often, keep learning, share and live well
ABOUT ME
Enjoy meeting people and travelling, I am always studying something and at the moment it is Ayurveda and the work of Rudolf Steiner. I spent quite a few years working towards a PhD but ran out of steam and enthusiasm for the data I was working with. It needs to be meaningful for me to retain focus.
I am a learner first and foremost and have found that through conversation with others I learn more and more about myself, others and life. I really enjoy sharing and discussing ideas with others and that is the aspect of teaching I enjoy most. As I work (as a casual academic now) in a university where the majority of students are studying part-time and online they are mostly mature age students (average age 35-40) and teaching is therefore more of a facilitation of a conversation within a community of practice.
PHILOSOPHY
My personal passion is centred on learning. Staying open to new ideas, expanding horizons. I love a good conversation about things such as - what makes the world tick, evolving human consciousness, and the like. I also enjoy a good joke - life shouldn't be taken too seriously :-)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have hosted others but have yet to go couch surfing myself - will do this later when I have more time to travel :-)
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Living where I do I don't receive many requests but I accept most of them and usually only decline if I am not going to be at home. I have a good level of experience with hosting and have thoroughly enjoyed having people to stay here, so will definitely keep offering my space to like-minded folk :-)
When I have travelled over the last few years I have usually stayed with friends, and couch surfing appeals very much because it is a great opportunity to make new friends :) I have a spare room with a comfy double bed and will happily host a couple or a single person.
Interests
Reading (non fiction and fiction), seeing new places, beautiful scenery, learning more about life and consciousness, integral theory and practice
- yoga
- reading
- traveling
- mentoring
- being social
Music, Movies, and Books
A very wide range of movies - if I go to the movies I enjoy being entertained and I find it easy to enter into the spirit of many movies. I also like movies that spark new thoughts and ways of seeing the world. Books - well these days it is mostly non-fiction for study purposes but have read a wide range of novels over the years, tend to gravitate towards books on health and wellbeing, spirituality, human consciousness.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
With one other person I flew in a single engine, four-seater plane for two weeks across the Northern Territory, Australia. The most amazing scenery seen at low altitude, especially the Roper River estuary in the Gulf of Carpentaria. Lawn Hill National Park was an astonishingly beautiful place to stay for a few days.
Teach, Learn, Share
Out of hours, I volunteer my time to personal development classes for resident students at the university where I work. This includes speed reading, learning strategies, and interpersonal skills.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Love to cook and share around a meal table. Happy to assist with small chores as required. I am a tidy and courteous guest.
